i've been makin beats for about half a year now on acid pro and just moved to the sp-404.the only thing my beats ever lacked were basslines. most of the time i just relied on real deep kicks.

how do u guys get basslines out of the sp-404 standalone? other hardware? wut fx do you guys use? ive only had the sp for about a week now.

i've heard ppl just take a normal song and isolate the bass and take everything else out. just wanted to see what you guys do. lookin for some tips.

the subsonic effect is basically an effect that creates basslines. U can completely remove the sample and resample the effect at different pitches then fatten up with some compression and mabe EQ. What I do most of the time when I sample from old records is I use the isolator to cut out all the mids and highs from a sample and get the bassline out of that.

i sampled a bass note in my SP, i edited it wit isolator (cut out all mids and hights and boost the low ends), vinyl comp and few eq, i exported the bass note in my pc, i pitched it wit Acid Pro and then i loaded the different notes into my SP...i think that SP 404 is great for bass sounds.

I usually filter a sample, sometimes I sample one note and I use the pitch function on the SP to get different bass notes. I pitch it first and I use the isolator after to get rid of the artifacts, keep in mind the pitch function lowers the volume. Also the pitch function causes a fucked up attack sometimes so you gotta give it a few tries or trim off the attack.

IMO it doesn't suck - it just sounds crazy. Sometimes it's useful, I try it almost every time.

Hi dudes!

I got my SP yesterday and right now I'm tryin' to figure out how the Subsonic effect works. I took a sample from where I want to extract the bass line. Is it even possible to solely isolate it from guitars and drums? When I apply the Subsonic there's just a buzzing sound that doesn't go along with the notes on the bass.

The subsonic effect just generates a sinewave during peaks when it is activated. you can use ctrl knob 1 to change the frequency(pitch) of the sine wave to harmonise with your samples. ctrl knob 3 adjusts the depth of the effect from dry through to completely wet (just the sine wave). Once you have the desired sound, just resample the sample to another pad.

Easy....

EDIT... ctrl knob 2 adjusts the threshold of the effect..... you can make it so the sine wave is always playing, or so that it just activates during the peaks.
