I mostly use my 404 to mess up my samples in ways I wouldn't on the computer. Hitting the pads, adjusting start/end, reversing and resampling portions of them mostly results in something completely different than the original sound which helps me creating something unique and unexpected more than merely arranging un-altered stuff. It's like a mutation breeder layering all kinds of effects with each resampling. I just try out different effects, resample with one I dig and repeat until I've got something I can jam with.

If I use it in combination with other gear I use it to group several resampled drum loops and other portions of the track that I can trigger and control whilst applying additional effects with my KaossPad. And I use my MPC to record and send back the stuff I play on the SP or the other way around.
