Who knows if I can install Ableton with Wine on Ubuntu.
I read that was impossible but...?

I already have Fruity Loops on Wine and it works almost perfectly (some little bugs but not a big deal).

Other decents programs who run on Ubuntu to advice ?

I'm a renoise junky and that shit works fine natively, probably better than expected since it comes with all it's dependencies bundled in and doesn't require obscure ones at the system level.

I dunno if Aldrin is still kicking around, but that one was dope, it was a clone of Buzz, but had sort of a Reason vibe...but something along the same lines that still gets updated is Sunvox.

If you don't like trackers, don't even bother checking any of my suggestions out, though.

ableton works with some bugs: https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager. ... ngId=87555

reaper runs in wine
fl 12 runs almost native these days.

energy xt is has a native app.
bitwig studio has a a native app.
LMMS is coming together nicely.
Ardour 4 is the man on linux,

rosegarden and qtractor are still very useful.

but if your going to make music on Linux
you just gotta let go of the windows / mac way of doing things:
"one App to rule them all." just won't work well in Linux.

in Linux audio is a collective effort and no one uses one app.

you get a "session handler" and use jack to connect different apps to "create your own daw" so to speak.

if your on ubuntu install "Ubuntu studio" packages in synaptic. then install
the KXStudio repos.

fabla 2, drmr sampler, hydrogen and shuriken are needed for hip-hop production.

right now you'll only be able to build fabla 2, sorry.

My FL 8 is the only man on my linux for the moment (and that vers is cool i don t need to upgrade)
I was just loocking for a Live type software.
Ardour 4 looks cool but MAN BITWIG looks like it fuck ableton lol...if i can run sidechain comp on this (apparently yes)
WOW YOU CAN COLLAB IN REAL TIME WITH THIS (like 2 USERS FROM DIFFERENTS COUNTRY ON THE SAME PROJECT SESH ??!! insane...
BITWIG 4 PRES

and if i find a soundcard compatible with Ubuntu : I ll be a linux lover for life.

vsti instruments are a weird thing in Linux.

they do exist but mostly they are just hooks so you can
run other apps inside each other and there are a lot of competing standards.

drmr sampler, for instances, is a a vsti that lets you open the hydrogen
drum machine as a plug-in in another daw. its cool.. but you can just link your daw to the hydrogen drum machine in jack.

there are exceptions, fabla 2 comes to mind. then again almost all tru vsti's can be run as a standalone app with carla. same with windows vsti's running in wine.

plugins brake down like this across platforms:

Quote:
Plugins for Effects, Filters and Instruments in Linux
LV2
LADSPA
DSSI
VST plugins

Quote:
Plugins for Effects, Filters and Instruments in OS X
Audio Unit

Quote:
Plugins for Effects, Filters and Instruments in Windows
Steinburg VST

Renoise, Bitwig and and EnergyXT are the big players in the "One App to Rule them All" audio software style.

but there's just so much "free shit" in Linux that you wind up just using the "free shit."

and jack is such an important bridge to learn to use, you just wind-up using it instead of opening a plug-in.

if you want windows / mac style workflow on Linux than bitwig is your guy.
or fl12 in wine. works much better than 8-11 did for me.

but no matter what,... you'll just wind-up using the free shit, instead of buying new shit or even going through the trouble of warezing. its just there.

anything focusrite or roland works out the box.

other stuff you gotta find out if it works or not with a search.

and really ask around. some things work but not all the way.
