Connecting 404, mixer and turntable to sample

Hey guys,
Just got my 404sx, this is my first post. I hope this is the right spot to ask for assistance?
I want to sample vinyl into the 404sx. My turntable is setup as follows:
- Turntable stereo RCA out into channel 1 phono input of my mixer (Pioneer DJM-909)
- Mixer Master out into my audio interface (Scarlett 2i2)
- Audio interface connected to my monitors

My question is how do I get the sound from my turntable to the 404?
I have the RCA out of the 404 going into channel 2 of my mixer so I can hear sound coming out of the 404, just can't figure out how to get sound in with this setup.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

just plug in your 404 on the master out 2 of your mixer (master out 2 > Input 404). So when you push Ext. Source you should hear the Music from the turntable and be able to sample it.

I have yet to get my first SP-404. My serious question is if a mixer is a necessity between the two?

Well, you don't need it - but those RCA inputs on SP are notoriously sensitive and you can clip them rather easily and on lower volumes than you'd expect,at least it feels that way. So you gotta find out what really works for you, personally I'd record the drums and possibly vocals through mixer and into DAW not SP, but it's a matter of preference, not a rule of thumb

Edit : my bad. I'm thinking of newer turntables, I don't need it since I'm using numark pt01 scratch, but old ones - you gonna need some amplifier, thus you gonna need a mixer xD

I think most turntables don’t have any preamp, so you can either plug in the turntable to a cheap amp, or dj mixer, to your sampler. You get a awful hum if you don’t ground it. As long as you ground the wire, everything should work.
