Fresh samples are better then ones that have been sitting...

Ive collected a small library of samples on my PC that for some reason i havnt felt too motivated to play with but today i decided to plug in my turntable and record some fresh samples which immediately inspired me to cook some up into beats. Made me think to myself fresh samples are nicer then ones that have been lying around too long...

Maybe not true for everyone but just thought id bring that thought up.

I dunno man. Its just about looking at things with a fresh view I guess. Can happen with samples you've had lying around for ages too

I save every single sample in my MPC hard drive. I'm at the point now where there are tons of samples i have completely forgotten about from upto 5 years ago. And every sample was something I handpicked and knew would be good to chop and flip. Some stuff I wasn't feeling at the time but I just knew that something could be done with it so I saved. And now coming to some of that shit with new perspectives my mind is blown

I think it's just that you listened to it a bunch of times on a pad, you get sick of hearing it.

But the way I put beats together I piece material from several sessions tapes. So hearing some shit I haven't messed with in a while sometimes brings some fresh life back.

Yeah it goes both ways. Having a huge memory and listening to old stuff can inspire new stuff that you didn't thought before.

With SPs, you get hours of sample time so I'm spoiled by them to even keep old stuff, because let me say something, fresh samples was mandatory for the MS-1. Yeah, it saved them when you turned it off, but the cards were space age shit at the time that it was like buying another MS-1 so you had to record to tape what you had with no memory card. Wasn't until 2010 that the cards became obsolete and cheap that I finally bought one from ebay for $20. Back in '95, the cards were $300.00.

Just saying, I know both routes, all good for me.

i usually just pull a grip of records maybe 5 maybe 25 and work with the samples I get from those records

when i feel like I've exhausted the possibilities I delete the samples

drum samples are another story though

I take my time and create drum kits and libraries that I can use over and over
