I just keep recording stuff to tape. Loops, drum sounds, sample snippets. Then when I get enough stuff on tape (generally, like 3 or 4 ninety min tapes) I will sit down and sift through stuff. Importing into Audacity and arranging it.

Ahyeah! - i made alot of beats , but never made a own tape - only one together with Runrun Raw.

Maybe we are too busy makin it too ''perfect''.
Tapes and Albums are ''work compilations'' for the listeners , alot of beatmakers don't think of listeners when makin beats - Or you must have a certain idea for a album/tape - so you work to a end-product.
The moment we start to think about the listeners, we get self-critical.
Or your folder with beats is getting to full and you gotta make some ''archive tapes''.

Just enjoy expressing yourself in music , feel it in your tummy - forget the feeling in your head - don't let your ego pollute your soulvibes.

Thats why I still have so many beats from the time I was/could be productive like that.

I keep it like Chaz Dolo. When I think of an album I look for a theme and an overall feel I want this album to deliver. That can go like "stalking the jungle with my animal companions while the rest of the world turned to concrete", "the album is a night from 6pm to 6am, every track represents an hour" or whatever. Then I kinda sketch out a very rough, curve of what I want the dramatic to work like in my head. Very basic, like "no intro, the opener should come in stabbing you from behind - second and third songs are chill but keep a bit of the tension before the next tracks go rougher again" and such.

The result might not turn out like I planned after wandering off into a different direction, but I for myself like that I've got something that helps me navigate and keep things on the rails. It prevents me from starting new track without a plan and just seeing where it goes, ending with a dope beat which but totally doesn't sound like the others I made before.
