MPC1000- Cop or nah?

Post by Gigolo »

So i picked up a 404sx not too long ago, It's my first piece of non-midi controller hardware and i quite enjoy it. I want to further distance myself from the world of computer production, and I found an MPC1000 on kijiji with the updated pads and 128mb ram upgrade for $500. I want to use it to overcome the 404s sequencing limitations and gain more control over my beats. Anyone have experience using these two units together, and does this sound like a good deal?

EDIT: Keep in mind this is $500 CAD, which equates to around $0.35 USD or something

Nope, it's the black one, with all the pads replaced. I think I'm gonna buy it after the guy sends me some pics, unless there's some glaring fault I'm unaware of.

Looks ok, except the pads look like they're sitting low on the left side. Get more pics if you can. Also ask if there's any bent or broken pins inside the CF reader. In my opinion, the machine is worth less than $500 if it doesnt have the JJ OS.

It's a great machine, i've been using one for years. definetely a good idea to get the pad upgrade from mpcstuff.com. the sequencer is great, being able to sample while still playing a sequence in the background is really handy. if you're not used to the saving process on mpc's it can be a little complicated compared to many basic samplers, but read the manual and stick it out.

I second everything distorted wrote, get the scoop. 1000s can be found for around 400 if you keep looking. Cop one though, you won't regret it. Jjos 4.9 is everything and more that I did with my mpc 4000. Plenty of room on the flash cards for storage. Get in the habit of naming samples and you'll be fine. I'm just as quick on it as I was on the sx, it just took a minute

MPC 1000 is amazing I save all my samples in there through various SP's, on it's built in hard drive 30gb or something. Chopping is great, PITCH and Q-link wow wow yes I love it I will never ever sell my MPC. It's fine in a backpack, hand luggage on a plane... I couldn't live without it these days.

Now pay me Akai

Thanks for the input everybody, I ended up buying the MPC, and it seems like I got a great deal despite me having no idea how to use the thing. Once i get cables that allow me to record from my sp into it in stereo it's allll over no more life for me.
After dusting it off it seems to be in near perfect condition, also turns out it has paid JJOS already on it. Pretty damn stoked to say the least.

Congrats on the purchase. Glad to see it's got the JJ OS too. Check to see which version it is since there's a few different versions available. OS2XL is the best out of all of them. So upgrade to that if you're not running it. It's really worth it to have all the added features.
