i rock a duo. mostly one at a time tho. the old one is kind of my back up / travelling one. It was love at first chop for me, so I'll probably rock a 404 og to the grave and then be buried with itkel wrote:I rock a trio of 404og's.

202, 303, 404, 606. Had the 555 for a short while. Don't know what I was thinking to part with that. I also rock with the ms-1.

i always wondered what the difference in feel would be like between the 606 and the 555. what's your impression?Mr. Davenport wrote:202, 303, 404, 606. Had the 555 for a short while. Don't know what I was thinking to part with that. I also rock with the ms-1.

Re: How many SP's you got? Anyone with the whole Family?
The 555 is just like the 404. It has four more pads, loop capture. The 606 is much different that all sp's In that you navigate menus..there is no mark button or any of that but it has a four track sequencer. One thing I really like on the 606 is being able to two effects on a sample at the same time and muting tracks on the fly
Re: How many SP's you got? Anyone with the whole Family?
this and it has also mute groups, metronome always soundable if you like (don't know if the 555 has this indeed)useful when resampling things and phrases, it has chop like the sp505 (in many cases the sp606 is a new sp505, their similar)Mr. Davenport wrote:The 555 is just like the 404. I get it, the 555 is like a 404 but with the ability to be an interface and controller.
just like the 606 is like a 505 but with the ability to become an interface/controller.
of all the sp's, menu's seem to be shared between the 808, 505 and 606.
so the real difference between SP's is where they descend from:
does it descend from the 202 with a few features from others in the family.
or ....
does it descend from the 808 with a few features from others in the family.

Yeah this is probably accurate. I've never had the 505 but my friend did and now that I think about it the 505 and 606 are very similar.mr.thraz wrote:ellaguru wrote:this and it has also mute groups, metronome always soundable if you like (don't know if the 555 has this indeed)useful when resampling things and phrases, it has chop like the sp505 (in many cases the sp606 is a new sp505, their similar)Mr. Davenport wrote:The 555 is just like the 404. I used to have the 202 also. I know a lot of people on there make due with them but I had little use for it. Now if it had resampling...it might be the perfect sp

Re: How many SP's you got? Anyone with the whole Family?
I started with the 303. Immediately fell in love with the sound, so copped me a 404 og to accomplish the 303.
last month found me a 202.
Now i'm just figuring out what the best setup is.
Usually i use record loops (standard and lo-fi 1) on the 202 with pitch and filter 1 or 2 and bounce it to the 404 for comp. Sometimes i hook up my Microkorg XL on one of the sp's.
but the possibilities man, there endless...
Also i love the fact that i'm stepping away more and more from the laptop. Focus only on the SP's.
And still i'm a newbie to the sp game.

Re: How many SP's you got? Anyone with the whole Family?
First sampler/sequencer I ever bought was an MPC 2000 with my first salary. So expensive back in the days... Great for drum patterns.
Copped my first SP a few years later, SP303. Favorite sampler yet. Sound, Compressor, Pads and so easy to handle though sequencer is basic.
Then 404OG and at last 202.
Perfect combo is 202/303. Sample and Pitch on 202 when i don't want the a warbling bass, produce the whole track on 303 and then dub it on a cassette
I hate quite everything about my 404, only like it to play live as it has many banks and more effects. otherwise never got used to it..
Yet mostly use MicroKorg MPC & Ableton. As my SP303 Pads are dying slowly, I may try to do a last lofi beat tape before it passes out.

just blessed my setup with one not too long ago, first SP. utilizing a turntable, mixer, maschine and now SP added. I normally don't RTFM but I definitely did have to humble down and read it.
