sp555 has vanished??

Post by Nosmo King »

ok so i really need to get my hands on an SP555. im moving back in with my parents for a few months and without a computer i only have my 404. dont get me wrong i love it to bits and have made countless tunes on it but i need extra capabilities because im not just making beats atm

anyway... can somebody tell me when the sp555 got discontinued??? i cant find one anywhere in the country (im in the UK) i can find maybe one or two brand new left getting dusty in a shop but it costs £600 which is fucking mental! thats like $1200.

whats the story of the ghost sp555's? any advice? cheers

People that bought them like them and aren't selling probably, check ebay in different countries maybe you'll get lucky. I used to buy euro parts for my bimmer from australia instead of germany because it's all the same and they're aftermarket is cheaper. The germans know how bad us amercians want those euro parts and they charge a premium. I never thought the 555 was that amazing but they are a big 404 with more features, if I was looking for a big box of tricks I would personally go the MV route, they are beast and should be a lot cheaper now since mpc fanboys didn't convert and boss/roland cats preferred the 404.
For old roland machines I think the sp-606 is super slept on, by hip hop producers at least.

i look online for equipment often bc hawaii has no used samplers/equip for sale beyond military dudes selling brand new mpcs .. i usually dont even have the $ haha but i do look around online every few days and i never see any 555s or MVs for cheap... it seems like they retained most of their original value
i have seen 606s under 300$ i almost bought one from guitar centers used gear online but i called the actual store and the guy said there was some problems with it so it was a bust

so my small bit advice is to look on ebay everyday morning noon and night and hope oneday u find one with a low minimum bid/buy now option
it does sucks buying equip online bc u want to try it first but thats just part of the game

what options do u want the 555 for specifically? i considering rocking 2 404s bc i so used to the workflow and i find it to be as fast as i can be with chopping or recording

I never saw the appeal of the 555 until I watched a youtube video showing the loop capture function. As much as I love the 404 and understand how great it is at sound sculpting with resampling and the effects I always get frustrates pretty quick when its the only thing I have to make music with. Lets be fair it is really limited in terms of track arrangement. I can make beats all day long but im not making that type of music atm. With the loop capture function I could really challenge myself and get complex with it.

I guess checking every day is what I'm gonna have to do but I'm so excited to make a project while I'm at my mums and time is really limited. Plus if I cant get excited about music while I'm there then there is NOTHING else to do. The only company ill have is my parents :| thats not cool for a matter of months mannn

sicnce some months i see here in france few 555s for cheap...don't know the reason why, but many people seem to sell them those days here...i was tempted to pick one
the price is going around 250-300euro
@Euclid
man the MV is a wonderful choice, i have the mc909 wich is very similar on the sequencer side, but while the MV is a more complete beast the MC is more versatile from a groovebox-live machine point of view...still, when i see the MV going here for just about 500euro (a dream just less than 1 year ago) i say to myself "damn..."

shit, maybe its best for me to be patient then even though i dont want to

to be fair the 303 hasnt really been in circulation around europe or i wouldve bought one of those ages ago. the sp555 was sold widely here though so i was surprised

does anybody use one with the 404? do you reccomend getting a mixer to make recording back and forth between samplers, tape and vinyl coming in?

anything else other than loop capture that makes them especially good working together? is the sequencer the same as the 404?

cheers

Shit seems to happen that way...when I don't got cash for one, 505's show up everywhere. When I got some bread, they vanish.

Ok so I just won a bid on a second hand 555 in Italy. Had to borrow money just so I didn't waste the chance. I paid £250 with £20 packaging... I think that's a fair price right?

Either way I'm excited as fuck!
