Hey all,
I have recently become very interested in a very mysterious, seductive, and head- knocking production style similar to that of Spooky Black, The Weeknd, Yung Lean, Sean Leon, etc.
This style is something that I want to understand and be able to create my own variation of. So, I was wondering if anyone could share some tips/production techniques/tutorials/etc.
DISCLAIMER: I am a newbie to producing so any and all help is appreciated.

some reverb, or delay applied to soft pads is one option
i think drums that are more on the tribal side such as bongos kind of add a mysterious vibe to tracks.

Yea. I've seen a lot of that. I've also noticed the use of trap style drums, which I think goes really well with that darker sound.

Sample found sounds and heavily effected tv/movie textures and add them very faintly to your mixes...adds a lot of dimension to your music

Reverb in the 'sweet spot'. If it's not filtered enough (should be on the reverb, not post reverb, though I'm sure there's fun to be had with that routing), you'll get muddy low end and overbearing top end that will detract from the main music if over done...the low end is probably more important for your beats so don't forget to cut off the low end tails of your reverbage so as not to fugg up the 808 kick. That shit should be PRISTINE.
And no I don't practice what I preach cause I never remember that shit while I"m actually doing a track, only after I stick it out there and everyone can see 'Man, dat dude fucked up dat mix!'. :p
