how do you deal with slept on joints?
sup all
so i was going through my soundcloud stats and noticed a few of my tracks werent getting as many plays/likes as others
which i totally understand.
music, and all art in general, is subjective
ya aint gonna please everyone every time, we know this.
but what do you do when a track of yours, that YOU really like, gets slept on?
---
https://soundcloud.com/goodmamamama/47-icarus
this a track that im particularly partial to, but no one gives a fuck about it cause its some ambient ass lullaby shit
most of the time i would just throw it in the vault, but i like it so much Ive reposted it back and forth from bandcamp and soundcloud for a year or two now
just out of spite.
---
so what do yall do?
how do you deal with your shit gettin slept on?
do you just stubbornly promote it more?
do you take it offline and just keep it for your personal enjoyment?
do you feel that your beats are less important if theyre not in the public eye?
i think itd also be dope to get a page of beats that have been slept on HARD up until now
post up your favorite tracks that just got no love

I ain't started yet releasing stuff, consequently have nothing to promote, so i can't advise you in it. But as i know any promotion needs investments, mainly time and money.
Also i think promoting an album/tape is more productive than just one song/track...
What i can say for sure is, have fun with what you're doing and enjoy the process!
Nice track by the way!

i got a few of those that i just keep up on there.
i figure, when more people get their ears around my frequencies they'll appreciate it. so give those people that haven't heard of you yet a chance to hear the dope shit.
or you can reupload the sleeper tracks as snippets on SC and add a download link that goes straight to bandcamp so they can listen/DL the whole joint.

this is actually a pretty good point
im definitely guilty of droppin nothin but singles
its fairly rare that i will put a tape together
im probably stretchin myself pretty thin on the promotional side of things

tru tru
i guess the sleeper tracks are a good way to determine how many people are listening to ALL of your music

ha 'slept on' is a pretty relative term i suppose,
i mean at the end of the day the soundcloud views are really just for my ego
true gratification in music come from the freedom of expressing yourself, not from the little thumbs up icon in the bottom left corner ...
that being said,
i. want. those. views.

online validation will send your ego through a rollercoaster. if people aren't listening, maybe they don't know you well enough. maybe they don't like it, maybe you're not on stones throw, maybe a lot of things. those mysterious inquiries will probably never be answered, so don't even trip on that

Who cares? do you make music to have others validate you?

Re: how do you deal with slept on joints?
GOODMAMA, that beat is dope, thanks for sharing. It reminds me of what I was trying (and failing) to do when I first got an sp. love that vibe.
As for feeling slept on, I've gotten so used to seeing "plays today: zero" that it really doesn't even bother me anymore. I could try to promote my shit by simply reaching out to people, or tagging beats on soundcloud a little smarter, but I'd rather spend what little free time I have listening to records and making beats. I'm grateful for the few peeps I've traded with and connected with through the forums and the Internet in general, and I'm happy that anyone listens to the tapes at all. Audience or not, I will keep making the beats, and I'm only getting better at it.

well, kind of?
i dont make music solely for self validation
but i think it would also be kind of self-righteous to think that i ONLY make music for myself
music is a way to express and entertain and communicate
and people have only been able to make a living off of music and make such huge innovations in music, because people validate it as something that is worth their time and money
i mean just the fact that we are all on a music forum, sharing and talking about our music, should give some indication that we DO care about what others think

i feel u
views arent important as long as you find a dope community
one that supports growth and challenges you to get better
path of a true jedi.

btw thanks all for the kind words about my track and bullshitin with me about stupid philosophies of the ego
my conclusion::::
every track i ever make can get slept on, as long as there are communities like this

'how do you deal with slept on joints?'
I pretend it's a banger that everyone loves and imagine 2 zeros after the lonely single digit.

One of my mates which is painter said:
"if too many people like what i do, that's mean that i'm doing something wrong"
