when i record synthlines into my 404 i usually leave it to a 4 or 8 bar loop for ease of sequencing without getting confused. hearing some of tracks has made me realise that building/chaining longer, more complex patterns is achievable

i'm really digging track 4 (Second Hand) at the moment

most of the time i record my synth parts into the 404, depending on how many samples i have playing. if i go beyond the 404's polyphony limit, ill practice playing the synth parts over my samples then record it while playing it live while i still have it in my mind. second hand was one of those. i have multiple samples layered and then i built synth parts ontop and played them live. i pay close attention to stereo distribution when working on this, i'm very serious about keeping things mixed well. my micron allows on the fly panning of whatever i'm playing, letting me experiment until i'm satisfied. i also add drums in with my micron, as in second hand.

yeah this ^ is where i need a bit of practice : )

thanks for the info. i'm using a Roland MC-09 which has a simple Pan feature, and also the same Isolator effect as the Sp-404, which are both great for getting my synth-lines sitting nicely in the mix before committing them to a pad on the 404. so i definitely feel you on that one
