SP Forums Live Stream/ Online Festival???

Post by 9 β€ąţ ȼ๏ʍβ๏ (・∀・) »

:o Was thinking about the idea of doing SP Forums Live Stream; maybe like an online music festival for SP users? Have peeps set up there webcams and stream themselves DJing or performing SP forum beats. The event could run for a day or two (what ever works with international time zones and everyones schedules).

You guys think this is doable? Are you down to stream? 8)

Give me a shout of any ideas or critics you have about this...

Could use mixlr.

It's pretty dope for online streaming and you can do a hour stream for free. As many times as you want. There's even like a chatroom thing.

Too bad there's no video for it... Not sure of other alternative platforms.

I have done streaming for fighting games before so I thiiiink it should be just as easy. We had a ghetto set up and it still worked. I can ask to see what service my buddy uses now if he is still doing it.

Kinda but I was thinking of using a third party service rather than setting it up from scratch.

Awesome! ^_^

Maybe we can somehow archive the event for those that need their zzz

Not quite sure yet, I think the criteria should be:

- Audio stream (video is a bonus)
- Decent built in chat room
- Some form of archiving for peeps that miss the event

BTW ram might be trouble if you plan to stream video but for streaming audio it should be fine... unless your computer runs on old cassette tapes! ;)

We could use mixlr if we can't find a decent video streaming platform. I'm happy to pay for any one off services (eg pro membership) to make streaming easier. :)

Woop fighting games!

Might the service of been twitch tv? Would be interested to see what you guys used.

Like you said it should be easy but there might be some difficultly in swapping between different users. The solution could be using a single shared account. :?

Just to throw another idea into the pot, could we maybe do this as a charity stream. Combine our SP powers for good?

Let me know if you guys think it's a good idea of overcomplicating things. 8)

Fighting games... my first & longest love.

Anyway, yeah, I totally overlooked the multi-user deal. That might be a little weird unless there is a shared account but even then... the downtime could be kind of all over the place.

I haven't really watched much streaming outside of fighting games stuff which is all at the same venue/location. Streaming from multiple locations seems pretty fucking complex to me.

If I'm free the next few days to stop by the arcade, I'll go ask around. There's been a lot of activity there lately and I know the streaming setup/knowledge has been leveling up.

Great idea I think - will just take an immense amount of care/passion/time to pull off correctly

I think if you have one guy running the stream who can screen cast HIS screen, people can maybe skype the performance into main channel streamer and they relay it on the stream.

Or something similar...it would make it 2nd gen quality but it would get job done.

A possible option. :)

I'm going to have a good look this weekend at different streaming services and come back with a shortlist of possible options.

Sorry for the late reply, been busy with 'life'! :P

I've got a shortlist of services:

Ustream
- Free 30 day trial
- Multiple user streams
- Ability to schedule broadcasts
- Streams can be saved and downloaded
- Broadcasting can be done via browser or free desktop based software
- Built in chat
- Stream viewable from mobile devices

Livestream
- Free but limited to 30 Day Event Archive
- Schedule upcoming broadcasts
- Integrated chat
- Stream viewable via Facebook wall with Facebook comments integrating into stream comments (ie comments on facebook video post show the channels comments and vice versa).
- Free desktop, mobile and web based streaming applications.
- Mobile compatible (costs extra?)

Bambuster
- Free with adds
- Supports 660 mobile devices for streaming and broadcasting
- Broadcast from web or mobile devices
- Embed stream into Facebook
- Integrated chat
- Seem simple to setup compared to other big services imo

Mixlr
- Free but you can only broadcast for one hour at a time
- High quality stream is restricted to paid membership
- Audio only
- Broadcast from mobile or desktop
- Embed live audio (listen through Facebook or Twitter)
- Export to SoundCloud, Dropbox, Mixcloud etc
- Chat integration

Tinychat
- Free video chat room
- Integrated chat
- Multiple user stream
- Pay for high quality/promotion

So far I'm leaning toward Tinychat and Mixlr for their simplicity, depends if peeps are gonna stream video or just music. For something a bit more 'pro' Bambuster would be my next choice...

...Let me know what you guys think?

I found one that's...i think would be good for sharing new tracks in a live setting...but you can't do live performance on it in real time...

And it's completely silly looking, but PlugDJ.

Basically it's connected to soundcloud and youtube and you make playlists of links to those things (it has built in search engine for both and playlist management is easy)...but it's essentially a 'club jukebox'...people come in and join the queue with their own tracks and you can grab and other people's tracks to your own lists (assuming they don't get taken down at the source, obviously)...

It's an option. I been hanging out there, it can be fun and if there's a planned event, you can simply make a single song file with all the tracks in your set because when you're up, you're UP, no one but the room moderator can take you down.

And it's free (unless you want to spend money making your cartoony guy look different, but if you just go often enough and participate in dj rotations, you get shit unlocked anyway, so be warned...if you're addicted to micro purchases, might not be a place to go, but if you're just there for the music, fuck it.
