RECORDING AND VOLUME KNOB

Simple question or maybe not,

But when you're recording with the volume knob all the way up... are you getting the white noise or w.e that is as well?

I just tried to make a track and had it all the way up and man oh man did I have the worst time trying to mix that track.. i ended up scrapping it

Yep you gonna have that white noise if you record with the knob all the way up. Having a ground cable or using the batteries help a little bit but the noise is still there.
What I do is turn the volume up to the max on my source (turntable, other sampler etc) and turn the recording volume down (sp) with knob at noon. That way you get less noise but unfortunately, it's gonna come back up if you use the compressor...

You just have to live with it I guess

I usually keep my volume knob at about 3 o clock, and if I need a boost in output level I'll do the ol' [CANCEL+START/END+CNTRLknob 3].

Yeah I figured it pretty much out.... I remember recording all my previous tracks with it around 3 O'clock..like dude said.. and I was trying to record some shit with it at max after a friend played with it for awhile.... i'm about to just glue the shit ha ha.. jk ...but it def doesn't need to go past where it's at right now... makes mixing impossible

Like Nwonknu said, running my SP on batteries when mixing down/connecting to other machines really help against ground loop hum.

About the ground hum... are y'all not plugging up to a power conditioner?

When I'm in the studio, I power from the PSU and have never had any (noticeable) hum issues.

Nope, I don't even have separate ground in the wall jacks.

Yeah I tried that, didn't help at all for the white noise. If you run on battery, then you know the ground or the power are not affecting the sound of your SP. I tried different things to eliminate that sound and my conclusion was: run on batteries and whatever sound you get, you wont get anything better. It's just the sound of the SP I guess

haha I hated that noise at first but I'm starting to love it now, it adds some grit to the sample. The only problem is that whenever you want to use the compressor, it will bring that noise up front and it becomes too noticeable in my opinion.

Nah, that noise is a real bitch when the knob is at max...I don't kind having it a little, but if the knob is at max and you forget you have the ext source on...the shit will make a crazy ass hiss...it ruins everything...I'm into lofi but not that damn lo.... A lot of people are Ito that, but I'm really just into 90-99 hip hop...never did any of it have that super lo if sound...that just our generation fucking around lol....it's all dope though...I like a few artist doing that

i record with 9 o'clock, on 12 o'clock its already too loud (even for my speakers, plus red volume-bar in DAW)

i record directly into laptop/audacity...

should i change something?

No thats about right...is it just me or is the 303s output louder than the 404s??
