pitch like the "simpler" in ableton

Lets say i sampled a violin one-shot sound from a orchestra vinyl.
Now i want to create a new melody with different pitches from this on different pads.
I really struggle with the pitch function on sp404sx - i recently tested ableton for 30 days, and there is this cool thing, called simpler, i think it works very well!

does anybody has a good tip, for making CLEAR pitching like this thing in the DAW?

i tried also with "voice trans" and other stuff, for me i think this function should really be good in a analogue machine...is mpc better with this function?

i really would apreciate some help from you guys.

sp505 has this pitch feature.. it pitches the sample across one pad bank so you have about an octave

and on the p202 the pitch sounds nice so you can resample different pitches back onto your sp404 and it will sound pretty good..

the 404 pitch blows I almost never use it

The Chromatic Pitch-shift sort of works. Or at least you can try using it for this, if you accept its shortcomings. Haven't tried Simpler for this, but I assume it beats the SX.

Chromatic Pitch is best used for making a chord from a single note. The SP asssumes your original note is a C. Since a C-major chord is made up of the notes C, E, G what you can do is to dial the knobs (Ctrl 1) E and (Ctrl 2) G. Ctrl 3 is used to balance the original note vs the pitch shifted ones. Press pad and you've made a major chord.

C-major scale is: C, d, e, F, G, a, b, To make a scale of notes from a single note you do like this.

Dial in the same note on both Ctrl1 and Ctrl 2 - let's say D. Dial back Ctrl 3 to mute the original note. Resample to new pad. Start over with E, resample to new pad. Etc.

You won't get perfect pitched copies, since the note now is doubled, there's this slight chorusing going on. But like everything else on an SP - you work off its limitations so it has its uses.

Or rather, I use it all the time.

i would just resample with the middle knob on the DJFX looper and consider the starting note as the highest pitch you can reach since the pitch can only get lower with it.

The 505 pitch mapping sounds like the Akai 12 levels thing, giving you a whole octave to mess with in a couple of button presses. Pretty cool function that, but the Electribe samplers (ES & ESX) do this automatically in their keyboard section.

Fresh, you might as well stick to Ableton & the 404, there's not much in terms of function you'll miss out there. It's like complimenting martial arts- think of Ableton to the 404 as jujitsu is to tae kwon do. Separately they might be good but together they can be deadly.

Use the chord effect, turn the right knob all the way right and turn the pitch knobs to same direction. Resample.

anything pitch related with a 404sx is not worth using. except if you want it on purpose. if you want good pitch editing you should either combo it with an other hardware sampler (mpc or rackmount/desktop type) or just any DAW (audacity is free and it\s fx are 10/10 IMO)

It makes no sense why the 202 has pitch and time stretch but every sp after is lacking these important features.

totally agree on this. SAMPLETRAK fills this gap just perfect along with some other shortcomings of the SP404.

also try how far the pitch control on your turntable gets you while sampling
