Dolby C Record/No NR Playback

You guys should give a shot recording your beat to tape with Dolby C NR unit and the NR system on. Then play it back clean with no NR. That shit sounds cool. It does something to the high end to make it shine without being blinding.

I recorded both kmd albums to cassette this morning in Dolby c, that's just how I do it since my deck has this "play trim" feature that restores highs, and the two sound good together... Anyways, I saw this afterwards and listened to the tape with Dolby off, and it does sound cool. Will surely investigate with my own stuff. Thanks for sharing!

Does anyone have the Dolby X/Pro setup that can verify if it, too, causes interesting anomolies when recording with it on and playint it back without?

Need to try this with Dolby C. I suppose it adds a lot of hiss, but maybe I could filter some away by sampling back into my Sampletrak.

I always got confused, and made some with it on , some with it off, and never figured out the best combinations to make it sound good, I just fluked out on a few recordings that came out sounding so clean and awesome, i think I used a good tape, and your trick. I don't produce with dolby anymore tho, just the tascam mfp01, i messed with the BIAS dial inside now it has more hiss, I think the slash in the 0 on the logo, is the direction to set the BIAS dial to make it sound the best, or maybe im on crack

Didn't ask if it was allowed, but I just tried the Dolby C on/off method on my SPBB-180 entry.

At 30 seconds, for anyone interested, is exactly what I liked about Dolby C on/off...there's a tamborine with a reverb in the track...on the playback with dolby on, the 'tone' of the reverb is lost, but in playing it back without dolby, that reverb tone has this aura of 'hyper clarity' beyond what you expect from that sound, which is interesting. Plus, you gotta admit, it added lots of dirt...I like dirt.
