t..i..m.. == cool utilisation of guitar, drums on point (i wonder how you made the bass : subsonic ?).

rak == fatality snare, cool sampling but too deep for me.

johnsondontsurf! (RockySullivan)== nice clap, light sound, i like the end pitch.

SP Balboa (Chopperman) == old school drums, i like the second part with the delay and filter.

lif == very raw , the high comp is dope like the drums and the voices are thug

Sleeps Numb == i don't like this clic but this lounge snare match with the rest.cool filtered voice and experimentation to the end.

janglesoul == nice intro, interesting filter and dance groovy drum (i like the voice in back)

Alnitak_Kid == deep house is def not my kind of shit

i hesitate between tim and lif, finaly voted tim.

peace yo

Timmy Toga
FUnky funky flavours... home-grown, cut, well-produced rolled and fired. Good-ass job.

Rocky Sullivan
Love this loop, but hang on, Heeyy... pass that over already! Guy is puffing away at it but won't give it up..

Rak
My favourite bit is the open hihat sound, and key-modulations in the synth-sample. Where you get the scratches from?

Chopper
Drums sound great although a bit stiff.. quantized? Two dope mini-flips might have been nice to combine them somehow rather than one after the other?

l i f
Am i the only one who incorporated Gotchi's cake-ingestion sample?
Anyways - actually, I'll admit I cheated - this is actually an intercepted message from Venutians in reply to the Golden Phonograph carried by the Voyager probes, not an SP-cut.

SleepsNumb
Nice claptrap-snare... like how you used the feedback sample in place of closed hihat. Nice and glitch like some real dope, and the extended-outro straight from NASA radio-telescope recordings.

Janglesoul
Love the filtering and the dynamics in your layers. Implies a house sound without being too four-to-the-floor, some nice syncopation and real airy.

Alnitak Kid
Good. On. You. Plenty going on here, structurewise and buildup-wise and layering of the key-synth blocks supersubtle. Only gripe is beat is a little too machine-clean (I mean on-the-one, rather than in-the-pocket? )

Parker Jordan
F%#in' loved the first 33 seconds, then my ears filled up with jizz. Sorry man, the dial-wanging lost me there... maybe a shorter 'solo' before coming back to that dope-as beginning theme.

So, real, real close for me between Sleeps and Timmy and Alnitek... i think i would have given my vote to Sleep if the 'pass the blunt' sample had stayed buried in the NASA transmission, it didn't need the repeats at the end. Vote would have gone Timmy's way if I'd only listened once, but three listens and it had given away all its secrets. Despite the beat being a little too clean and quantized I vote Alnitek based on skills of crafting a track and real hi-grade treatment of samples, dynamics, stereo-placement etc etc. And for chutzpah for not doing hiphop.

I went with Sleeps Numb. that one seemed the most other-worldly, so it gets bonus points for theme-fitting vibes. love the drum work too
also really like those of Jangle and Rak.
good flips. good round. good times.

I was groggily on my way to work last night waiting for a traffic light to turn green when suddenly a car passes to my right, going probably 30 mph, straight through the red light and into a car parked on the street. Surely a drunk driver who fell asleep at the wheel. It really freaked me out because if her car would have veered to the left instead of right it would have hit me. I try to be alert and drive very defensively but I didn't even see her coming. As I watched her wreck, the most chill music was playing in my car. the weather was really calm as well, just sprinkling rain. it was so surreal. She jumped right up out of the car appearing to be uninjured physically, so I kept it moving to work. Crazy shit. it was horrific but a nice reminder to really live and appreciate this fragile life. I like to think i'm pretty tough but I almost got taken out by a drunk college chick last night.

tim: nice refhreshing vibe man.totally dig the bass gaps.whole beat is fire

rockysullivan: you already said you quickly flipped this.i like the pitch on the end.could be a lot better fo sho

balboa: like the drums.nice change after the middle man

lif: great flip man.i like the repetitive vox and the harsh ducking effect!

sleepsnumb: nice glitch effect instead of hats (hope you get me :p) and the snare.dig the ending man! been wondering how i could do a similar fade in/out effect.may i ask if you did that on the sp?

janglesoul: i like the vocals man.but to be honest the filter effect wont fit in my ears (straight translation from mother language haha)

parker jordan: could not dislike the 202 sound man...pass the blunt! awkward ending got to say

alnitak: totally dig your approach man! great structure there.well done :!:

got to go with tim...still love the sound plus he used pretty good a different sample than most of us hehe

nice guys!!see you on next round.me want to listen some aggresive stuff!

t..i..m.. - Funky Fresh Flip. Think you freaked the afro samples the hardest. Nice Bouncy wonky feel to the drums. Golden Age meets beat scene stylee. Dug the effects soloing ending. Guess my only critique be that it would have been nice to hear more of the samples from the pack rather then the outside vocal samples. But overall top shelf this week.

Rak- I like the crunchy drums swinging all over the place. Especially the high hat stutters and voice sample percussion. Cool use of filters to give the synth sample some variety. Microwave Vibes, seems a little rushed. Could have used a little more variety on the sounds, but overall coop little flip.

JohnsonDontSurf - Tape syrupy sound. Really digging the delay effects and the overall space between chops. Drum beat was a little simple, but fit the chops really well. Cool stutter on the drums midway. The noodling at the end kinda overshadowed the first part to me. First part had me a little underwhelmed.

SP Balboa- Golden age meets easy listening Vibes. Nice mix. Dope kick. Drums seemed a little robotic. Nice use of the sample most of us used. Feels like its missing some of your vocals tho. Solid song structure. Stark contrast on the second section, awkward transition. Great beat for an MC Tho

L I F- Fiyah. Contagious codeine crunk floating funk. Drums are filthy. Great use of the samples and a couple more 8) Greasy ass compression. SP Wizardry with the time stretching and pitching on those voical samples. . Top Shelf!

Janglesoul- Herky jerky Native American Witch House. Feel like I'm at a rave with Spirit Wolf from Mortal Kombat. Nice use of the filter. Cool weird percussion noises. Shits pretty weird, but i kinda dig it.

Parker Jordan- This is why peeps buy SP's .Freakin' flabbering Filth. Like the Wah like effect on the intro. Knob fiddling Madness was cool. TEAM CANADUH stylin left me with blue balls just as my head was nodding.

Altoona Kid- Cool two step Nightrider scene stylee. Great use of the samples from a sound design perspective. Professional sounding mix. While i was digging your drum sequences the actual sounds were a little generic. Ill ever evolving song structure kept me engaged in vibing.

I picked L I F, but it was real close. Some tough samples this week everybody killed
it! Hyped to be back battling' on the forums and making beats again. Mad respect for all you cats!!

@Rak-

been wondering how i could do a similar fade in/out effect.may i ask if you did that on the sp?

Not sure what element you are referring to. Do you mean the synth chops, the overall beat..?

Hi there!

TIM: Great funky bouncyness, and a lot of great stuff happening, good energy. Enjoyed the work with guitar riff.

RAK: Cool beat, I enjoy that there's always different stuff happening in your beats, drop-outs, filters etc.

johnsondontsurf/rockysullivan: clever use of delay for the basic rhythm, really liked that. would have appreciated some different part for added variety.

Chopperman: Really like the first part of the beat, thought it was cool groove. On repeated listening I start longing for some more variety (filtering, breakdown, ducking out drums etc).

LIF: Thick texture, like a waterfall of drums tumbling down the stairs, or like a mic inside the sand bag of a heavy weight boxer training - leaves me a bit exhausted after a while. Cool filtered vocals in the second half.

Sleeps numb: the sound of a space trip, or under water? Nice understated beat, I liked that the drums sound distant dreamy. Mixing up the first and the second parts for variety could have been an idea

parker jordan: Velcro ripping loci-fuzziness. Obnoxious and bouncy like a kid that doesn't want to go to bed. Cool and messy, but I appreciate that it's short.

Alnitak Kid: I thought this was great. Especially when it lifts around 1 minute. Getting so much variety and dynamics out of those synth chords impressed me.

Janglesoul: Thanks, for the kind feedback. I chose the happy accident method and relied a lot on filtering this round. My main beat was from the latin song-sample. Did it all on closed headphones which sort of made my levels turn out all wrong - so I was relieved at the appreciative words of my mess.

Lots of inspiring stuff from everyone, but Sleeps Numb and Alnitak sticks out for me. I vote Alnitak.
