Any tips on implementing the 404 in a rock/alternative band...i've been listening to animal collective/panda bear and el guincho and love the sounds

you could put it in a chain with the singer or guitar player and loop things they do in addition to triggering samples along with the music, or they could play to programed drum beats off the 404 - those obviously are just 2 ideas the machine is prety versatile for music making

just use it to store and play sounds period!
store some synth youve recorded.
random static
drones
whatever

you can either choose it to be the center of a song or just add character to one.

I too got interested in the 404 through Panda Bear and Animal Collective. And El Guincho is really pretty amazing too. It was cool to get my 404, listen to el guincho, and then find out its what he uses.

that's basically what i was wondering. if yr playing w/ a drummer who is used to playing over a click, or over machine drums, then you'll be okay. but most drummers have a hard time w/ this in my experience. if that's the case (ie: rhythms are a sloppy mess) just break down yr arrangements and figger out what you can trigger to go over what you and drummer are playing.

for ex: yr set up doesn't have keys, bass, or a children's choir. well, w/ the sampler it does.

thanks a bunch, very helpful....the whole idea of triggering an array of different sounds is so exciting, its changes the way we look at music...madlib was actually the first person who got me interested in the SP's and then now with AC/panda bear/el guincho there is new life, amazing stuff really

If you watch how AC does it, they don't usually loop their melodies, it's broken up into small parts. The only things they really loop is just sounds that work like a backdrop.

It's more involved but to me it's very satisfying to play this way.
