Oh wooowwww maaann... trippy:

Real labour of love this one, wanting to do justice to both spirits of Sun(Ra) and Moon(dog)... hardest job was eq-balance in the mastering stage cause it is so smeared with reverb and I only have shitty headphones or Logitech speakers to reference with.. hope it sounds okay to you all (i tend to struggle with bass levels)

Started with synthbass in ill harmor and jammed a drumbeat over it, came out in a nine-count which i spent a couple days just listening to and playing over with the Ra chops and the Moondog choir/string sample. When I finally started recording i jammed about 16+ minutes with different versions of the Ra piano chops + vox/sax/noise/synth samples culled from loads of Ra docos/films total freejazz blowouts etc. Then reversed it and layed some new hats, reversed it back and layed another set of hi hats over the full 16 mins. Layered this version with the original to give more clarity to it all while having all this smeary psychedelic shit going on underneath. Might add that the closest any of this comes to quantize is that the synbass was set to arpeggio, from that point everything is played or (re)sampled in realtime ...

Then resampled a few four or eight bar chops, leaving out most of the extraneous, way-too experimental bits and jammed out the structure for this version you hear with the original vocal chops. It took a couple days of trying different structures before I was happy, cause I wanted it to sound live but with an odd time-sig it was really easy to eff up the timing when some samps started on the 9, some on the 1 and some on different snares.... The take i finally liked I added reverb, reversed and reverbed again then re-reversed. Final mastering in DAW involved, as I said, just eq and normalise. Otherwise all processing was done in the SP with the DAW used at various stages just for playback for overdubbing purposes so I could save on zip memory.

SO happy to have gotten the extension of the deadline - Don't normally spend this long on something, but also I was out at gigs a couple nights this week so lost a lot of time during the week I normally would have had to work on these things... Soooooo --- many thx Fresh and allayah fellow SP-aficionados!

Fucking hell, forgot that I meant to do this then I realized that the 12 midnight cutoff probably wasn't even my timezone so I panicked and went into microwave mode and threw this together. Wasn't sure if the rules about DAW bouncing also carried over to tape or 202 so I just kept it strictly in the SX like uuusual. No outside samples. Used a bit of each melodic sample except for the Mt. Fuji track which I only used the vocals from.

Gotta run some errands but I'm hyped to come back and listen to everyone else's submissions.
