Pick a record off a shelf,
slap vinyl on Numark TT-1700 turntable,
send through Stanton M203 mixer
into SampleTrak ST-224.
Output loops to Realistic variable speed cassette recorder. (mess with pitch)
Track out onto Fostex X-18H multitracker.
Send to computer for mastering,
upload to Soundcloud.

p.s. I know, I know. No SP! I sold my 202 awhile back to help pay for rent when times were tough.
I plan on picking up a 303 in summer (or hopefully sooner) to get that warbled, time-stretched pitch effect on my samples.

PT turntable or cassette boom box >303 or 202>resample method>404sx>computer. If I have loads of time, which I don't , I sometimes pitch stuff on my tascam 32 r to r. With 3 kids it's all about efficiency these days.

Often: make a beat in Maschine, record it from computer to 404sx, (or just make a beat from kicks and snares i let sit on the 404) resample for effects and length, grab random record, get some chops, resample xinfinity, final resample to empty pad of the whole track, then move via memory card to computer.

Interested to know who is using the MPC 500 in the mix, I have one but it's just sitting there…any good reason to pull it back out? I hated the dial, that was kind of the reason why I ditched it.

I have a 500 but i really don't use it much but when i did i just used it like i would an sp and completely bypassed its sequencer but there is still an advantage to using it imo because it has some features that aren't present on the sp or are better than the sp has like the compressor.
Edit:Than again if you don't like the dial I would say just keep doing what your doing because it isn't worth trying to fit in the 500 for the things i mentioned....

find sample from cassette, computer, or vinyl. Add effects that I want, lofi stuff, in Ableton. Record to 404. Chop on 404 and add additional effects if I want to. Record drum hits to 505 and make a pattern. Record to cassette and then record to computer.

Easier to explain this overthought mess in paint than words:
Attachment:

workflow.png [ 37.89 KiB | Viewed 4642 times ]

Gear ID: Roland SH-32 (synth), Analogue Solutions Europa (sequencer), Boss SL-20 (harmonic slicer FX), Lappy/Laptopderp, Roland SP-606, Korg ESX (sampler), Korg KP3 (sampler+FX), Yamaha MG166cx (mixer), Roland SP-404sx, Lexicon MX300 (reverb), BBE 382i (maximiser), DBX 266xs (compressor), Boss BR-600 (recorder).

Long story short:
- this allows me to segment my workflow 'cause I prefer to work in the box rather than bouncing.
- Nothing has a single use, will change up who-chops-what depending on the sample etc.
- 606 & ESX are the main bits of gear hence the larger text.
- 606 is midi clock.
- Got a 2nd 606 hooked up to the record player so I swap memory cards to get that vinyl flavour.
- Lappy sends USB audio to 606 (soundcard style).
- Mixer groups are FX busses.
- I'd upload a photo but I spent all my money on gear & don't have anything that can take pics. The first step to dealing with GAS is admitting you've got a problem.

This away set up is all about bouncing. I like the workflow but the results are more demos of what I'll finish back at home:
( 404SX -> OP-1 ) AND/OR ( 404SX -> OP-1 ) -> BR-600
+ DS-10 synth + Monotron Duo + Ipod

SP schematics! Dig it.

Totally off topic. But I love MS Paint. It's such a simple and useful tool. Plus can be a great timekiller for doodles.
I plan on using it for artwork for my upcoming cassette release.

Cheers dude! When I first figured out that arrangement I won't lie, I might've drawn that on a piece of A4 & stuck it to the wall just about the mixer so I could remember what the hell was going on. Took a few goes to get the schema right too.

Yeah MS Paint's super underrated. It's the 202 of the digital art world: if you know what to do with it you can make anything. Just like Jim! http://jimllpaintit.tumblr.com/
