I'd be down for a comp or something. The SSB tourney sounds cool but I'm not a very competitive person, don't get me wrong though I'd be paying a lot of attention to it, it sounds hype.

I have an idea for a 5-way star wars split/comp based on those original 5 bounty hunters from episode V that I'd like to collect heads for, but I figure I need to establish myself more.

If there's anything I can throw a contribution to though, I'm down.

the idea behind smash bros brawl is to pick a character and a sample that's related... e.g. character: starfox / sample: corneria theme
(see the sample as a stage)

stage you actually fighting on get's picked by pure random though but we'll have a quick voting in before on what's the final stage / sample...

we make it 16 characters and a classic one on one battle system so we get 4 rounds... if you loose - you're out.

rules been pretty open - own drums and synth if necassary
each round runs for a week - 4 days for beatmaking - 3 days for voting

i hope that i still got the fx sample pack - it's always fun to recognize a character in a beat... just listen to the 2013 brawl to get an idea!

I'm on the forum for over a year now, not writing much ( my English is quite bad )

But I'm still reading and learning a lot here. The SPs are still my favorite instruments ( 404, 303 and 202 for me ).

I do not have the impression, that the SPs are dying. Here in Europe it's quite the opposite. A lot of people start to discover the sweet little boxes...

Also, a lot of guys who used or wanted a MPC realize that these machines are getting more expensive every day ( prices get more and more ridiculous over here ) and they switch to SPs.
A friend of mine, using a MPC for more than 10 years, recently bought a 404 and he's totally loving it ( "much more intuitive and faster" ).

Yo guise how about doing a looper:

Turntablists use loopers to practice over, little programs (usually flash) with buttons, each button makes a beat repeat ad infinitum.. usually the loops are a few bars but they can be longer too..

An SP-forums looper would be dope, plus skratchers put up videos of themselves (ourselves) cutting over them and usually credit the looper, so it can generate some publicity. Many skratchers make beats too so maybe some get hooked on SP-s ;D

I would volunteer to make the design/graphicz, I could do a real-ass drawing of SP-s or some shit (so you press the SP-s pads to hear each loop or smth)

There are some specifics to GOOD skratch beats tho... it has to have room for soloing over, so they should be "empty" in a way, but still funky. Best is if they have a minimal but catchy groove witch you can take cues from to build your skratch flow and engage in "dialog" with. So making good skratch beats can be a challenge too, I can post some legendary skratch beats as examples if you´re interested.

Also, I´d be down to make an actual real mix out of tracks from here, a real mix with turntables and cuts, not putting it together in ableton with a mouse, like most "mixtapes" nowadays.. keeping with the spirit of quantize off and live feel...

If anyone has any blog suggestions I'll send them, along with the Winner's Circle tapes. I sent SP World 4 out to a few but got discouraged by the lack of response. I think this time I'll be more relentless about it.
