^good luck with that. youll get more confident driving, just dont get cocky behind the wheel. I seen too many young little shits destroy thier car because of that.

yeah in the last five years or maybe less, theres been around six kids around my age (18 ) die from drinking and driving. real stupid shit. i value my life so im not gonna do some shit like that

I'm bumping this thread to see some new posts.

For sampling vinyl, I like the SP-404SX because it has RCA, so I use it to sample from a portable turntable with its built-in preamp via RCA.

I was using the SP-404SX to sample from DVDs:
DVD Player > SP-404SX > TV

Now that I bought a MiniDisplay to HDMI adapter, I may use my MacBook to play DVDs and use Audio Hijack Pro on it to capture the samples.

Question: How many of you use the headphone's single 3.5 or 1/4 out instead of the RCA on your turntable?

I really like the KORG Microsampler for chopping/truncating and composing beats. I bought an SP-606 recently (sold MV-8800, MPC-2500, and SP-303) and plan to invest time into it. I find it inspiring and the size is perfect in my set-up. That MV was huuuuuuge!

I'm still working out my workflow....

right now i make everything on a 404Sx then send over to the go 404 for effects or one shots or whatever.then I either record the beat to my 4track which is connected to my interface for grit or i just bypass the 4track and record right in to Ableton.From there I master my shit and then I'm done.

Simple setup:

Sound source >> MPC (or Beatcleaver) for chops & pitch >> 404SX >> FMR RNC >> Logic 9 (via iD22)/Akai tape deck/Zoom H4 (depends on where I am, how I feel like working etc)

Pretty simple. Right now I am running just the 404 + DAW for beating off and I dig it.

As of right now I make everything on the pattern sequencer on the 404sx then I record everything to reaper to do panning and sidechain etc. then add bassline via Microkorg or bass guitar and pretend like I know how to mix and master and then throw it on soundcloud or send it to my friends that rap to see if they want the beat or not.

I used to have this IRON workflow making shits with Ableton and an Axiom 25 controller, picked up an SP-404 last year and have it's kind of scrambled my productivity.
Two different worlds, so now I'm in the process of reconciling my hardware with my software.

I have a microKORG on layaway atm so once I throw that in the mix I have no idea. 2015 will be a year of learning.

Yeah I still haven't figured out how I want to integrate software and hardware to my satisfaction....its either all done on Ableton or Reason or all on SP and just mastered on a DAW.

When I am using my DAW for beatz...

MPC1000 six outs >> Saffire 40 inputs 3-8
SP404SX >> Saffire 40 inputs 1&2
Saffire 40 ADAT out >> iD22 ADAT in
Mic'd drum set/synths/misc sources >> ZED60-14 >> iD22 inputs 1&2

I have the MPC & Q25 keys on MIDI duties, mainly controlling EXS24 (bad ass sampler). If I work this way, I am sampling my instruments more than records (which is a huge plus to me) and doing most my sampling/editing directly in Logic 9. Slept on the native sample editor & flex time for years... unfortunately.

This hybrid setup allows me to record my instruments like normal while offering MIDI clock from LP9. Combined with auto-punch in/out recording... making pattern blocks for arranging is a breeze. Once the basic skeleton is there then I go in and add the meat by recording 100% unsequenced layers one-by-one.

This is the ultimate flow for me... I get to sample/program on MPC/404, take it to DAW for arrangement then layer up by hand with my other instruments. Editing is fast & easy when I need it. EXS24/VI's controlled externally by MPC and Q25.

Hi,
I enjoy these kinds of threads, and I've done tons of forum-searches to learn. So, just to share for the archives this has been my workflow lately.

My latest project, not yet finished, has been an attempt to take an old folkpop song of mine and give it some kind of deep house treatment. Not really Detroit-kosher, but... fun!

For this I have used the SP-404sx Midi-slaved to my digital multitracker, Fostex VF-160. I started out with a minimal 8-bar drumloop on the SP. With the beat running I did a scrap-take of me doing guitar/vocals into the Fostex. With the song structure down I could go on and record bass, synths etc.
After deciding on different changes/additions and beatvariations to suit different parts of the song I ended up with perhaps eight different pattern. Finally I did a livetake - and recorded the SP-beat into the multitracker.

In a way the workflow is kind of crude since the beat is now just a stereo track which won't allow me to change the balance between different drums etc. This kind of workflow would probably benefit from an MPC with separate outs. Still, I intend to stick with the SP-404 and Sampletrak for now. Limitations might be a blessing.

Just now decided to learn my MPC500...havent used it really since I got it...so now its Audio Source-Sp404 SX-mpc(Except for beat battles)-DAW for mastering....I sat my tape deck and other 404 to the side so any effects i want have to go on the chops ahead of time...unless I bounce it back to my OG 404 and do it that way but honestly for me it never sounds right adding effects to an entire beat aside from maybe a filter.Have no clue what all effects are possible w/ the 500.....

ASR 10.... my favorite chopping easy chopping machine

SP 303 ...i like chopping with it

AKAI s20.... Fastest chopping ever...i love using this joint for joints when i smoke joints

Microsampler ....same chopping as the asr 10 (kinda) lol

workflow...start off with the sample...chop and mess around with it and then put drums to it... THE END
