Thinking about a 202. ( already own a 505 )

I found a 202 some days ago for 60€ ( + shipping & shit, it would cost something like 70€ ), and I think they look cool, they're cheap, and they can run on batteries, but I already own a 505 and I need to know if it wouldn't be "useless". I could use it as a "sketchpad" or something. I'm a boom-bap/abstract hip-hop cat ( Baths, Shlohmo, J Dilla, Madlib, MF Doom, Flylo, TOKiMONSTA, etcetcetc... ) and I'm afraid it wouldn't suit my needs.

What do you think about it?

It has a built in mic, two different filters, and it can get really dirty sounding. I use mine exclusively to sample with since it give my a dirtier sound than my 404. Its the only SP in the whole family that has TRUE PITCH, like a turntable.
If you have a memory card for it, you can sample onto banks C/D. This is useful because in those banks, all the pads cut each other off.

You could sample a drum loop onto bank A/B. play it, and have all your chops on banks C/D.

honestly out of all the machines ive owned.... 202, 404, 505, mpc2000xl
the 202 is my favorite. If mine broke i would replace it, no questions asked. If i had to pick one machine to keep out of everything itd be the 202.

I loved the 505 and i think the 202 would be a great addition to your setup if only for just the pitching.

memory cards are really expensive, and I already bought smartmedia cards for my 505 and I don't really want to spend 80$ on a 4mb thing :/

You're not the only one who told me that the 202 was your favorite sampler, it's really surprising haha

well, I'm thinking about using the 202 primarly for a stand-alone use, but I'll think about connecting it to my 505!

the pitch function looks interesting, I actually use the pitch shifter thing on the 505 but it cuts high-ends etc, so..

It's definitely the less is more of the Sp family. How you are going to work them together is really up to you, but I would just make sure you consider tossing in a 2-4 channel mixer to make your life a bit easier. Check your pawn shops or eBay, but they shouldn't cost you too much. (Assuming you don't have a mixer handy)

The memory cards are a pain to find cheap, because they're considered rare now. But 1 is all you need and you're off. If you can't seem to find any, then either just bounce the 202's samples into the 505 or your Daw. They might come out warm and crunchy depending on the grade of the quality you chose. The 505 can add more reverb, compression, bit crushing, or any of its effects you desire on top.

oh yeah I should really think about a mixer or something, not only for a 202, I think it could be usefull.

well it's a bit off topic but.. I just found a 404 for 100€. not in awesome cosmetic shape, doesn't come with a power supply.. but damn, for 100€!! I don't know what to do anymore. Should I buy the 202? the 404? BOTH?? ( I don't know about buying both, I'm not short on money or anything but I plan on getting some other gear lol )
