Berlin
hey everybody, i'm heading to berlin, from melbourne aus, mid next year i think, with my film school, there's 20 or so of us and everyone's gotta make a documentary about something in berlin and how it relates back to melbourne, so i was thinking of potentially doing something on the two cities beat scenes, i've got a decent look at melbournes, but i was wondering if there's enough of a scene over there for it to be worth filming. thanks heaps errybody you are great.
Re: Berlin
Hey man, I don't know specifics of the beat-scene, but I was in Berlin over 4 or 5 days in 2012 to play some shows and hang out.. first and only time, but I wanna go back... can only describe it as like a cultural Mecca. So. Many. Gigs. Of all kinds. Every night of the week. Seriously spoiled for choice, you're forced to pick and choose and run the risk of missing something.
Also a surprise for me (though neither here-nor-there when it comes to the 'quality' of any of the scenes) - sssoooo many expats - like every second person I met was either an Aussie/Kiwi or an American. Strong middle-eastern immigrant population means great takeaway food too; was really cheap to eat out. And get yourself a bicycle when you get there is a good way to get around the inner city

Re: Berlin
Fuck yeah, I've heard a lot about the music scene over there being massive and having a pretty decent spread of genres or whatever. Which is the main reason I thought id post about it. It seems kind of hard to find a very strong beat scene anywhere other than la or something, people making our kind of stuff seem pretty few and far between. Either way I'm sure there's enough people in Berlin rockin an sp or mpc or something to interview for a 10 minute doco, just need to be able to find em.

Re: Berlin
hit me up when you're here... sp-forums veteran drewzle (from melbourne also) is living here for quit some time also now... he became a serious psy trance producer - maybe it's interesting for you also - documentary wise...
just pm either him or me when the time has come..

I think there's a lot going on in Berlin. I know two dudes who moved there for the beat scene. Try and get in touch with Radio Juicy https://soundcloud.com/radiojuicy they know what's up
Re: Berlin
awesome dude, definitely will, yeah I saw somewhere that drewzle was a melbournian over there. Are there any venues that put on shows in the 404/beats vein that I should look into/get into contact with? really appreciate anyone helping out, been wanting to see someone document this little style of music for ages but i figured if i've got the chance i may as well try and do it myself.
strangev, thanks man, i will definitely check out radio juicy. your mates moving there for the scene is a good sign

Re: Berlin
there is A LOT goin on... i'm down with the HitYaWitThat crew and the Traumküsten Soundsystem... they make hiphop shows, a monthly open scratch session and the backyard joints which always feature a different producer (live beat set)... 404s, MPC's, laptops... another dope thing is the "sample sience" presented by turntable tutorial.. it's like a 2hour microwave battle - go there with your stuff, get a sample and present your beat afterwards.. it's no competion just a monthly fun thing - a few established german producers taking part also.. will go there next time - def need a sp battle in before though... like i said... just pm me when entering the city...
Summer is awesome for doing live beats on the streets also..
