Midi foot controller and the Sp-404

I am looking into buying probably the Rolls MIDIbuddy foot controller

But I have a couple of Sp-404 questions...

I understand that each midi number controls a different pad as shown in the manual. But is it just the sample button or can it be the pattern button? In other words... If the pattern select button is lit will my MIDI commands control the patterns or will it still just control the buttons of individual samples?

On a side note: Is this a good investment? I want to be able to control various progressions through my samples while playing guitar. I have been developing this fuzzy beat driven folk songs and really want to start working on my live act. Is this the way I should go? Is there a better product? I have just been thinking about not wearing shoes on the stage and using my toes to hit the pattern buttons.... But maybe not.

the Patterns cannot be triggered by a MIDI note : (

but that foot controller looks good
every pedal triggers a different MIDI note?

i think it sounds like a great idea

EDIT - i just noticed that the The MP128 MidiBuddy says it can send Start/Stop info
so you could begin a pattern playing, but switching between them would have to be done on the 404, not remotely

hmm well maybe I can work around all that...
I guess I will just have to spend a little more money and get a board that supports making MIDI stream patches and do everything that way...
