Sampling question

So I've been wondering this for a while now. When I sample from vinyl I've had a couple approaches. 1: I use a usb turntable and record the track into audacity, then shoot it into recycle to chop up. I'll then assign the chops to my 404 using the sd card. OR 2: I'll plug my sp straight into my powered receiver that I listen to records on and sample directly from it that way. My thought is this will produce better or "warmer" sounding samples

My question is which way is better or does it not matter and it'll sound the same either way?

When you record to Audacity... Is the receiver in the signal chain? Not only are you getting a preamp but there are usually EQ curves you can control. If you like chopping on your PC, keep it up...I would run the chain with the receiver either way.

The quality/texture is nicer when I use my receiver but that is because of the phono amp + EQ control.

Bounce your samples out ta Audacity at a lower bit rate. You will get something close to "warm" pretty quick.
