Sp-404sx + Microbrute?

Hey boys

I'm new to this forum, and I got a question I hope you can help me with..

My sp404sx is on its way to me right now.
Maybe this is a stupid question, but sins the microbrute is a mono synth is there a way for the sp to pick up the sound to both left and right?
Or is there a workaround?

I use a mpc renaissance now and when I sample the brute I just set input to left and then I'm alright..

plug the microbrute into the mic input with a quarter inch.
press the mic button and ext source button.

press on stereo so it's not lit up.

wheter or not it's tuen one it's gonna be in left and right, stereo will take more space and poly. poly is precious if you resample.

hey, how's the microbrute btw. I just got a volca keys and I was wondering if it was too much in the same vein. The microbrute is tempting with its matrix. Do you use the matrix a lot?

The microbrute is really really good for bass sounds but also for effects.
I haven't come to use it as much as I thought I wold, and I was planing to bye a volca at first but changed my mind the last second..
This is my first analog synth tho, so I haven't quite figured out the matrix yet. I mean I've tried it but hasn't been to use production wise for me yet...

For its size, it's a biiiig synth...
It looks quite good next to the SP

I too just got a micro brute and was wondering the same...but wouldn't the signal from the synth be too strong for the mic input?Or is that only when you take two line level inputs and combine them to fit the mic input?

I too plug my Microbrute into the mic input on the SP. dont sample bass sounds in stereo; its a waste of polyphonies. Sometimes i think the MB is too strong (i guess) for the mic input and i will have the volume on the MB almost all the way down.

i usually use a 1/4" to rca adapter to plug synths to the line in, i find it easier to manage clipping on the sp that way

yeah Y adapter (1/4" to RCA) is gonna be much better than using the mic input.

I believe monosynth refers to the note polyphony, not the output signal (mono, stereo). Monophonic means it has a not polyphony of one, meaning you can only play one note at a time (no chords).

Y adaptors don't combine signals, it's electricity so one signal will pass through the adaptor and the other wont (usually R). You need a mixer to combine multiple signals. The issue is that Line level input is not the same as Mic level. Mic level is much lower and usually gets boosted by a preamp.

I think ill just use a y adapter and plug into the line in and just sample in mono…that'll work right??…just making sure:)

That should work, or sample in stereo if the 1/4" out on the microbrute is in fact stereo

It may be stereo, but there is no osc panning or anything like that - you are better off sampling it in mono for two reasons:

1. mono sounds better on kick drums/bass synth things like that, it is centered and more dominant

2. use up less polyphony on your sampler.

If you record it in stereo then in mono and compare, I doubt you hear much difference; it's just duplicating the signal to L and R to get to stereo

For a mono synth that is true stereo and you can hear it, try a DSI Evolver
