Okay, so after a long and not so pleasant ebay experience, my 404 got here a couple of weeks ago. didn't have a card at first, so just got familiar with the machine using the internal banks, and finally, this morning comes my card. I go sit through classes with serious anxiety, get home a little bit ago, plug in and format the card, and start digging through my vinyl to fill up these new banks that are available to me.

No matter what I sample onto the card, whether it be a line from my computer, mixer, the internal mic, or if I just hit record with no sound going into the 404, there is this obnoxious static click that appears along with the sample, making this machine pretty much useless. I've tried formatting/initializing the card over and over again, no luck...

Has anybody run into this problem before? Any suggestions??? Please help if you have any knowledge that could help me in overcoming this dilemma. Much appreciated...

What is the size f the cf card?

And indeed make sure it's a decent quality card.

Its a 1 gig Sandisk Ultra II. Would a smaller size up the quality? I am having a hard time finding a place to buy CFs under 2 gigs. Seems like most stores don't stock them, and my only option is eBay.

If you goto a computer camera or music store they will probably have them there. But ya, if the pops n such are not happening in the interal banks im about 90% sure its your card thats the issue.

i think the other dude had a problem with the same card

which is odd because i use one of those same cards and have never had a problem with it. but maybe there are dodgy ones out there?

eBay is your best bet, i've been grabbing 32 meg CF cards for pretty cheap lately.

see if you can get a smaller card, and also try the regular San Disk rather than the Ultra II.

hopefully it's all just a dodgy card
