Noise coming out from 505

Post by korakios »

Hi!I got my 505 and i had a chance to play with it for an hour...my problem was that a hi-frequency noise was coming out from inside the 505 and not from the line-headphone out...

I opened it and i found that a coil was making all the noise so i "borrowed" another one for cutting RF frequences(I took it from the store i used to work) and the noise is gone...but i'm not sure if it's ok because the screen gets a little dark when i press any pad or play a sequence, although it's cool because it follows the beat!
The guy who sold it,told me that he bought new here in my country and roland's people told him that it was normal...i don't believe him!, so i ask you:
has anyone the same problem?!

By the way, 505 has a very special sound...lets say a harmonic digital sound!
(I have 606,and played with 404-555).I am a happy man!

i donno what to tell you. the high pitched sound is not normal. the dimming screen when you hit pads? also not normal. never heard of either of those problems.

does it work otherwise? can you live with it?

In both situations it works! But i can't stand the noise at all!so on Monday an electronic engineer is going to have a look at it to see if I've done anything stupid!
I can't believe that the guy who sold it to me is trying to convince me it's normal...
tomorrow I will upload the bzzzzuuuuuiiiiiizzzzzzzzzzziiiiiiieeeuuuiiii....
thanks!

any buzz from the outputs (especially if you are not getting it from the headphone jack) is obviously not normal.

have you tried switching cables though? could be a cable.
it's also possible one of your jacks is fried, so i would test each output jack on its own.

The noise was coming only from the hardware of the 505,it did not affected the line/headphone output...i fixed it ,so everything is ok(i guess!),thanks!

i totally know the noise he's referring to. it's the ultra high frequency noise that comes from electronics like t.v.'s. i had that problem with a sp-505 i had a year ago. not sure if it's on all sp-505's. the sound seemed to be coming from the screen. it wasn't too bad, i just got used to it. my ears are really sensitive to those high-pitched sounds.

oh - yeah, i get that during boot up. turn it on, high pitch freq., then after the sp-505 logo fades out, the sound does too. but it DOES fade out. if that continued, i'll pro'lly go cRaZy.

You could try open it and see(or better hear!) the source of the noise...if it's coming from a certain coil then it's simple to fix it and not expensive...

yo this is my second 505 and it makes the same noise, I know about the coil, I think I saw one in the 606 or maybe took the 505 apart before and saw it in there. its only annoying for a bit then you cant even here it, how can i fix mine to make the screen fade when I hit the pads ? that sounds wicked.
