e yo regaz, i've heard that samplers like Akai MPC, Emu SP1200 ecc... have a fuction called swing for drum programming...have the SP 404 a function like this? usually i use 8th quantization for hats and 16th for kicks and snares.

try the 16.3 quantization I think there's a 32.3 one as well, im not too sure I don't use quantize too often since Im a drummer myself.

But don't believe all that MPC magic swing bullshit, I have a 1000 and the 404 can "swing" just as well or just as badly its all in how u play it in.

the thing about the mpc and even the swing featire in things like ableton is it takes your midi notes and shuffles then a certain percantage according to the quantize value. So say you have a 16th quantize on you can add a 10% swing to pull some notes forward off the 16th grid about 10% or so. It give it a little more natural feel if you do use a strong quantize. Works well for hats and stuff you really want to sound "not so stiff" but if you use a 32 or so for the quantize you can acheive the same thing with pratice. Theres no magic "swing" to make things sound better if you can learn good arrangment techn's in the first place. I hope that helps out man its hard to explain the mythical mpc lol but in short no the 404 is a straight 1 pattern seq with quantize values and no swing or shuffle options.

if you quantize with 16th triplets (16.3) its the same as quantizing 16th notes with 65% swing on an MPC. If thats not enough u can use the air swing trick. Where u samples a little extra air in front of your samples, and then cut it off...sequence your pattern and use the knobs to slow add some of that air back in which will make your samples hit slightly late.
