This is my first post.

So I know I might take some heat for this, but I like using Ableton Live's warping functions to process samples before loading into my SP-404sx. Last week I found this: slicing by grid.
http://loudonstearns.berkleemusicblogs.com/2012/07/09/ableton-live-slice-by-grid-and-audio-editing-tips/

By using an audio clip's launch functions you can chop a longer audio file by sixteenths, beats, and bars in a composition lane.

What I'll do after the separate audio clips are recorded into the composition lane is rename each chop to something like chop 1, chop 2, etc. Then I'll select all of them and crop. This saves them in the Live project file's Samples>Processed>Crop folder all with the file names chop1, chop2, etc. Then, with a card reader and the SP-404SX Wave Converter you can drop the chops right onto an SP formatted card.

Cheers!

Aint nothin wrong with doing it like that!Whatever works for you.I personally like to keep my hardware and software productions separate for the most part, and depending on the mood I'm in I might use them together. Its just so easy to load a sample in to the sp and chop it up right there but to each his own.On a side note did you ever take one of Loudons' classes...if not I recommend it because he's an amazing teacher.I had him for advanced Ableton Live and learned A TON!

I go back and forth. I have a lot of devices flowing in and out of the computer through a mixer and an interface. I'm slowly pulling myself out of the box. It's challenging so this is sort of my between by chopping with software then making patterns on the SP.

This could also be done by warping and then using the "Slice" command in arrangement view, but this is a little less tedious, especially for longer samples.

Shit, I took the tedious route and have spent 3 years learning this stuff. I can say at this point there is very little about Live I don't know how to do. I've read the manual back and forth and still found little things that weren't in there, you know? I also have never had the duckets to blow on a DAW class. lol
