Overdrive through Mic In

Yerp. So I've been messing with overdriving the fuck out of the Mic in on the 404 which produces some raw sounds that I like. Also doing some feedback loops via send/return on my mixer. I was just wondering if this is bad for the 404? (peak light is on full blast the whole time)

Also, the reason why I started messing with the Mic In is cause I realized that I right channel of my RCA input is dead! I was considering opening up the box and seeing if some soldering needs to be done. No experience with this. Any advice from heads who have fixed a similar problem?

dude my 404 has been through literally hell and back .. somehow it still survives to this day I'm legit flabbergasted by how well built they rock but NO DON"T USE OVERDRIVE BUD bad idea... unless you want that Kurt Cobain type rawness I wouldn't suggest it. Simply because it's a matter of taste and this is just my opinion I've never listened to anything that uses the 404 overdrive that hasn't made me want to throw up in my gym shorts repeatedly.

Haha no doubt. The overdrive effect is weak I was talking about overdriving the Mic in. Like turning up a drum machine mad loud then running it through the mic in to where its peaking. Sounds crazy and adds an extra level of compression I was just wondering if that could damage the input over time.

i used to do this for talking samples, and then turn them down, gives them a nice creamy sound, Im going to try more with over driving the monotrons, to try and get some of the generic dub step sounds. i figure that might be a good way to get them like that.
