recorded sound getting cut off! sp 404 sx

Post by Fradfresco »

Hey guys, I'm having a problem with recording and resampling.

A lot of the time, but not all the time, the recording will skip into a further section in the sample...same with resampling, almost like a CLIP, then skip.

I have had thoughts that maybe it is because the volume is too loud but nothing in clipping...

anyone have this problem on the sp 404 SX?

Thanks!

I've had this problem in the past and even bought a new SD card in hopes of remedying the problem. It didn't help. What I've noticed about the skipping problem (at least in my case) is that it happens when I've recorded a lot of sounds onto the card and then tried to record a long sample.

I haven't had the problem in a while but it still happens occasionally. It's worth trying to rerecord after reformatting your card.

Ps I started with a 16gb card, had recording issues, and bought an 8gb card.

I came online just to post that suggestion...my 16 gig is not filled but almost everypad has something on it...and the project i'm doing has required long sample recording....So maybe to be hypothetically strict, a good system would require me to have many sd cards...In that case we would never have to buy 16 gig or perhaps even 8 OR 4????? What if I bought a few 2 gigs!?

at this point, i agree with the previous comment about there being errors in recording when your pads are loaded.

Thanks for getting me to think about it some more guys,

Maybe your SD card isn't fast enough for audio. I had this issue when I first got my SP404sx. The original owner threw in a 8gb card as part of the deal but it was a class 4 card (decent performance for an older digital camera). I bought another 8gb card off newegg.com that was a class 10 card (can record HD video) and never had the problem again.

I'm having a similar issue. I'm experiencing a ton of latency when making drum breaks using the resample method. I'm using the stock 1gig roland sd card. Think this is my issue?

buy a sandisk extreme pro sdhc card, it has a 95mb/s data transfer rate which is used for full hd video or super high res digital slr photos so it should handle your sample needs just fine. 4gb or 8gb size is probably best size/price

Always use SanDisk for Roland products, never had an issue with their cards. Usually I buy either the SP's max capacity or half that, nothing more or less.

Is your 404 used or brand new? If used then maybe someone messed around with it with MIDI and fucked up its brain chip. Even with USB shit can fuck up. Someone tried to take that SP to the moon.

this is probably the reason for all the skipping when i sample/resample. i only have a 20mb/s card.. just bought two sandisk extreme cards on newegg. hopefully i dont gotta worry bout this shit anymore

Yo, sorry for diggin this out of the blue but has using a faster SD card resolved the issue?
I'm having the same clipping/jump forward issues with my SP404sx, and i'm using a class 4 16Gb SD card...
I really hope it's the card.

Thanks spfam
