Beat tapes!!!

I bought a case to shelve my cassettes.
Wanted to hear what beat tapes you guys suggest.

Check out 38 by apollo brown. The cassette version has all the beats that were left off of the lp. I kind of went from not knowing who he is to being a super fan this summer. Basic boom bap influenced by dj premier, very consistent.

On my "collection" in my bandcamp, there's a bunch of good stuff. Tapes are cheap enough that if someone posts one in the your music section here in the forums, I usually cop it or trade for it. Standouts off the top of my head are crates and mindstates and escape from jade palace. Also, ohbliv and dill withers' split tape is great, and I like everything by dj dj tanner. He's got a bunch of tapes out, and they all have a great sound and vibe, though they're not exactly beat tapes. More like mellow psych with occasional drums that bump.

*shameless self promotion* I just sent off the art and music for my own tape, out later this summer.

Oh, and don't forget about all the classic rap tapes floating around for cheap on ebay or at the thrift store. In a box filled with sermons and Richard clayderman tapes at a Christian ministries thrift shop, I found the first leaders of the new school album and lifestyles of the poor and dangerous by big l on cassette. Definitely worth getting the fingers dusty for!

Yeah Scruffnuk's stuff is dope. That Dusty Planets album blew me away. I'd say it's on a level like Donuts. He says they're working on putting that out on cassette. I can't wait for that.

I missed out on that Ohbliv and Dil Withers tape. I got it in my Wantlist on Discogs, so when it pops up (and it probably will for like 50 bucks or some oddball price) I'll try and cop it.

There's been some great tapes showcased here in the Your Music section.
Cats got talent.
I'm always down to throw a few bucks at an unknown artist with a dope tape. You support the homies, plus got something in your collection that will be there if they blow up down the line.

I like how Bandcamp has fan pages and a wishlist. I utilize the hell out that.
Although, I'm not down for buying digital copies. I want something tangible.
It's rad seeing more and more cats come out with cassette releases. Glad to see a resurgence of the tape format.

There's some older stuff that I seen get re-released on cassette. Like Blu's Jesus beat tape.
And there's some new stuff out (like Madlib's Pinata and Pete Rock / Ed.O.G's "Worst Enemy") that I'm waiting to get paid to buy the tapes.

I'm starving for John Dope's tape to come out on Dirty Tapes. He told me back in November that it was supposed to drop in December. Still waiting...
He's got a cassette out now on Bandcamp with Tafe G. Go buy it!

Is Don Goldman still doing it? His tape on SLF was epic. I got a digital copy. But i want that on cassette.

I loved Damu's How It Should Sound series when it came out.
And it's dope how the ReDef Records team design the cassettes to look like 90s blank tape covers.
Klaus Layer and K-Def got some heat too.

I just copped Youtaro's beat tape Turn of RawTip off Radio Juicy Bandcamp.
If you haven't heard Youtaro Nusro stuff, check him out. (Actually, I think he's a member on these boards.) He makes dope loops.

I been bumping his On Flow EP. And I seen that this tape had a "I'm Bouncy" flip on it. The one on the On Flow EP was better than the one on this tape, but I wanted something of his on cassette.

Just copped it. There's only like 6 left it says on Bandcamp.
This is my first overseas purchase, so I hope the shipping part goes well.
