Grounding?

My 404sx seems to make a buzzing sound when I hook it up to my studio monitors.It doesn't seem to matter what type of cables I use the buzzing is still there.If it needs to be grounded what is the best way to go about doing that?

Also everything is plugged into the same block so I know its not that....

If you got a monitor near your amp or speakers, you'll hear a buzzing.

Also plugging it into a different block may actually help in some cases depending on the wiring of your building/house/apartment/shack/cardboardbox/whatever.

The best way to ground the unit, though, is to get a power supply with grounding on it, imo. You'd have to get a 3 pronged power supply for best results without having to do any real 'hacking'. Just make sure you get identical polarity, amps and voltage rating for your replacement supply. BUt I would actually try another outlet first if possible. I've heard strange stories of people switching which outlet their gear is plugged into and strange noises magically disappear.

By monitors I mean speakers,they are KRK Rokit 5's.And Im not sure how I can have the 404 away from them as I need to be near the studio monitors to hear properly and get a correct sense of stereo field or whatever the term for it is.So if I plugged them into another outlet which is on the other side of the room I guess I could use an extension cord to get the 404 to the other side but that doesn't solve the issue if its actually the fact that my speakers are causing the noise when my 404 is on and close to them.I definitely need yalls help before I plunk down the dough for an electrician to come check out my house,which in all honesty could be the issue and not my gear(Im just trying to rule the gear out).

Also Im not certain but I think my strip has grounding......

You shouldn't need to call electrician, that's going too far. You're at an 11, bring it back down to a 5.

I was just telling about stuff I've heard of happening before.

Check your power supply. The one that comes with the 404 does not have a grounded power supply which is why I suggested getting an after market supply with a grounding prong on the plug. It's something cheaper to check than rewiring your house!

Roland doesn't make em but I'm sure someone does. RadioShack would be a place to start. Match all the specs on the factory supply + grounded.

I've never looked for one, but surely one must exist. Also don't forget to match polarity on the plug that goes into the power jack on the 404.

Try to connect SP's phones jack shielding/ground to line-out shielding/ground. That will reduce some noise.

there is a ground screw on the back of the SP, try connecting a thin wire from the ground screw to the monitors, it is probably old wiring in your building causing this. Thats what the ground screw on the back of the SP is for. but make sure you always keep that screw tight. because the power jack will get loose and start shorting out.

Thanks...its been a while since I posted this but the issue still occurs occasionally.That being said I never actually tried to do what you said.....what type of wire should I use to connect it?Like something I could find at Home Depot?
