Resample and keep the sound quality ?

I have heard that you can copy audio instead of resample them.
Can someone explain exactly how this works? As simple as possible, I have read a bit in the manual but I dont understand at all. I want to be able to apply effects to my sound then copy them several times and then add more effects. Is it possible to do so without the sound quality will be degraded '.
