Vinyl Breaks to Looking for Trap Drums

Hey guys, I usually sample my drums from vinyl breaks, but I've been wanting to take a new direction for my next project. I never searched for drum kits before, so if you guys could recommend some trap sounding kits, I'd greatly appreciate it. Just DL some 808s or 909s. Someone posted samples of like some hundred drum machines recently... Or just just sample some 80s drums or something yo.

You can find some nice 808s on early 80's records by the Japanese band Yellow Magic Orchestra (YMO).

Lex Luger is a common kit. Just add a kick on top of that 808 bass and mess with the envelopes in a DAW. Maybe a little distortion in the filter too. I would make videos but fraps doesn't work on ableton or FL for me.

Where can I download the Lex Luger kit? I've never downloaded or searched for kits before.


So all those trap hi hats, snares, and basses are from 808's and 909's? Is there more than one 808? I always that the 808 was the factory sounds from Roland's 808 drum machine, but the way you worded it, it sounds like there are many 808's out there?

I HATE drum kits. It takes the art out of diggin for sound. I mean, it's convenient to have a collection of sounds to choose from. But it lacks in originality and takes away from the art.
More respect given to a producer that hunts down his sounds from spinning vinyl.

You'll find what you're looking for diggin in 80s Funk/Rock/Disco/New Wave. Just got to do a little diggin'. At the same time you'll expand your vinyl collection.

I would agree to a certain point about the drum kits. If you're corny, you'll use the drums straight up. But if you develop techniques to combine, layer, and design them in different ways, you're set. Just like any other drums.

Some people loop breaks and some people take drum sounds straight from breaks. Sometimes it's best to add your own flavour.

Don't get stuck in a limiting mindset.

Trap is a different genre. You can go commercial like Yung Chop and Araabmuzik or push it in different directions like Blank Banshee or my man Marsh Sound.
