What's up my people,

I just scored a 404sx of eBay, second hand and it appears kinda broken. Sometimes when nudged, or tapping the pads it restarts... Other times it goes ok even when moved about. Damn. The seller seems to think its maybe I haven't pushed in the power lead properly but that seems kinda stupid.

Damn thing cost 225 British £.
Anybody got some advice? Is this a common problem? Could I be doing something stupid? The thing isn't in the prettiest nick, but it seems to run OK on batteries.

I'm inclined to just send it back but I sold my 505 to cop it and I get the feeling this guys gonna be a hassle to get a refund from.

At least I still got my ST224 for now.

Unless it isn't a stock supply, I don't see how anyone could not push the adapter in all the way. I'd say don't wastetoo much time trying to fix it and just return it. If it wasn't mentioned in the description on ebay that it restarts during operation, you shouldn't have an issues getting a refund. If the seller won't refund you your money, open a case.

My 404sx does the same thing. Not sure if its the power supply (stock), or the input itself (hope not). I have yet to try a different adapter, maybe you can if you're able.. For now I just keep my sp stationary with no problems

prob just a cracked solder joint on the power supply jack or a broken wire on the adapter side. Both of those spots are prone to this sort of thing on most gear. Easy fixes if you or someone you know can do basic soldering.

Yeah I figured it was something like that - could be a quick fix I guess but the dude's been really sketchy about returning it so I don't wanna wait and see if there's anything else wrong with it down the line.

Shit experience, eBay can be pretty hit and miss. When I got my 505 one of the line outs was cracked and needed soldering but the seller was so dead on, offered to fix it and send it back gratis, couldn't apologise enough for the inconvenience.

So now I've no 505, a busted 404 I don't wanna use cos I just know I'm gonna send it back for a refund eventually, its kinda put me off! Seriously considering a 555 if I do eventually get my dough back.

Anyway, peace

eBay essentially is as good as the sellers you deal with.

if it wasn't an "all sales final/no refund" auction.. get your money back. No need in waiting (possibly past the return time span if there is one) and immersing yourself in regret.

if it's not as described in the auction you shouldn't settle with it.

Cheers again for the replies peeps

Yeah the guy had a no returns listing but I'm gonna anyway, since its pretty much not what was advertised.nthe thing looks like its been in the wars, scratched up and dented - none of which was shown in pics. In fact it was sold as being in great condition so when it started fritzing I was raging!

Hopefully we'll settle it like gentlemen and I won't have to go nuts.

I had to return something that came damaged and EBay/PayPal took care of it after I had to start a case. Good luck- C
