Here we are!
Big Up to all participants... cool productions guys!
What i liked:
@ Davidarcade - the banging kick, crazy ass 8bit snare, the nickname sample and the noise part (hi neighbors
).
@ Alnitak_Kid - the relaxed mood, the beat, the "prrr" sound and the middle part.
@ Locksmith - the intro, the hip hop feel, the break at 0:53 and the end part (tch tch tch tch
)
@ Janglesoul - the rhythm, the way samples are sliced, snares roll and pauses.
@ IIIII - the grimy sample, the kick, the pop sound and the "yes" insert at 0:30.
@ Ellaguru - the bass sample, the part at 0:44 and the end.
Once again respect to you all!
Keep doing your thing!
Peace!

Re: SP-BAttle 158...mic checked...
Coming into this as a total nOOb, it's really exciting to see the variety of beats coming out from the same samples. Lots of interesting sounds and textures I'd love to learn to master.
Arcade Swagger: Cool beat, I like the crunchy distorted snare, and the brutal Gas pedal-shock! Dense, saturated mix.
otbt: I like the layering of samples and the depth it gives. Dark, deep sounds and a great flying saucer ending.
Alnitak Kid: I enjoy the beat boxing, the moving filters and the variety of how samples are presented. The snare coming out with/without reverb.
Locksmith: Do you resample with the mic on? Cool, I like the extra layer of clicking pads.
IIII: Wow, I'm impressed with what a different sounding room you made out of those samples. Really like the cool tabla-style (?) drumming. Like a dark and mysterious temple. Indiana Jones would reach for his whip.
Ellaguru: Cool white noise synth sounds, good beat and rumbling bass. Great variety of sounds happening keeps it really interesting.
My vote is torn between IIIII and Ellaguru. Two very different tracks. It's more or less a tossup, but I think the clubby feel of Ellaguru synth stabs wins me over. Too scared of the temple!
Well done all of you! I'm humbled by all your cool entries, but the love the battle form which forces me to finish something, however sloppy.
Cheers!

Re: SP-BAttle 158...mic checked...
arcade swagger: felt my speakers get the shit kicked out of them. nice dirty crunch.
otbt: strong as a complete track, imagined a dude rapping in french over it. short loops but it didn't grate on me. enjoyed the spacey one shots and rolling drums.
Locksmith: sounded like you were actually picking a lock the whole way through haha. i like the chops and the feel at 1:36. cool change up at the end as well.
janglesoul: so strange and almost comedic but i found my head bouncing haha. solid first entry.
IIIII finally i know how to pronounce your name! super tight and moody. refreshing to hear some quantized stuff actually (I'm guessing you're not a robot) good choice. what sp did you use?
ellaguru: mad heardable! dope tight groove. wicked bass. engaging break at the end. would dig another break down if you can be bothered.
close call for IIIII and ellaguru. coin says ellaguru

No I used the on board mic on my 404 to record my beat box loop cause I never tried it out before. I'm not exactly sure how that clicking got in there but I assume it's me hitting the record button too hard.janglesoul wrote: Locksmith: Do you resample with the mic on? Great beats all around. I was really impressed given the limitations.

Cool entries - Alnitak_Kid got my vote. The idea of vocal drums + the nickname
stuff was cool. I was actually going to jump on this and had some fun with vocal
drums - but when I came back to dl the actual samples. the vote was on. Gots to
be quick next time..

Sudden Death wouldn't sound like a bad idea if everyone had enough time. Drop a tie breaking second beat, 30 seconds or something like that. Cage match.Jade Badger wrote:I never had time to enter this one!!! this was a challenge for sure who won it? oh damn it is a tie! does default go to Locksmith? or... SUDDEN DEATH!
We really gotta get more guys active on this part of the forum to vote though.
Re: SP-BAttle 158...mic checked...
ties had happened yet, it happend to me once some years ago, we decided to do a next beat battle, like normally, except that the winnerS decided the rules, samples etc; so Locksmith, hit me a pm or go ahead with a new battle if you want
