roll function

I swear i've done rolls on this thing before. Now when i hit roll and press a pad, no sound comes out. Does a pad have to be set to a certain setting for the roll function to work? ive tried mono/poly, single/phrase, gate/shot/alternate all to no avail. please help!

normally no special setting has to be done to play Roll...do your 606 pads play well (without Roll)?

yes, i have no other problems triggering the pads.
when i engage the roll, the pads dont even light up

Are you trying the roll during playback? When the sequencer's on it'll quantise the rolls to match the beat, this avoids out-of-sync rolls. It's more obvious when you set the roll's resolution to longer notes like 8ths, quarters etc. Just hold the pad longer & it ought to start rolling.

Just tried setting a pad to alternate & rolling for the first time. It triggers the sample to play on-off-on-off, as expected. It's a weird effect but sounds kinda cool, even more staccato than the roll usually sounds.

So the sequencer has to be on? That doesnt make much sense, but i noticed my sequencer wont play the preset patterns either. I think my 606 is fk'd.

sequencer on or off, roll should works anyway...
...maybe try to reinitialize the machine...

something similarly weird happens to me once with some pads, so someone reinitialize the machine fo me (i don't even remember how does it works to reinitialize it, maybe is well written on the manual)...now the machine goes ok, but sometime strange lighting appers on pads from time to tome...
