I bought a Korg Monotron DUO =D (thoughts inside)

Hey guys just wanted to give some opening thoughts on the Korg Monotron DUO.

I already have the OG monotron. in comparison some of the capable sounds are very similar. I think the duo uses a square wave while the monotron uses a saw or at least its what it sounds like.

the way i use them makes me think the monotron has a more "Horn-like, jazzy" sound capability while DUO seems to produce more of a "NES, video game vibe". Both can make sounds that i would describe as weird and spacey.


I got some beats ive made with it and the 404sx but havnt uploaded it to bandcamp yet.

will post em soon... But yeah id say the DUO is a great budget analog synth especially for someone who likes those 8 bit video game sounds without the sampling.

I bought the duo a couple months back and for £30 you can't grumble. Really good fun to mess about with and the audio in is a real treat! Yeah, totally 8bit sounding, gotta tune it by ear but adds to the fun! Also I hear the og monotron doesn't have the scales option which is wicked on the duo

the OG Monotron has a slide scale and instead of that switch there is a screw that when turned, expands/decreases the pitch range.

One thing thats cool about the monotron OG that i dont think you can do on the DUO is make Bass/Kick drum sounds.

heres 2 tapes i made, 1 uses the OG the other uses the DUO.
