Imported Wave files are with different BPM ??

Hello there,

For the first time since i have SP 303, i tried to import some samples which are with 97 BPM. But when import them to Smart Media card, my sampler (sp303) plays them at 88 BPM and they sound "stretched" too.

I was wondering what can be the problem, but i can't get it.. So is there somebody to tell me what happens

My guess is that they were not 44.1khz 16bit wav files.

You might try using the 'bpm adjust' function and turn knob 2 to BPM you want or until it sounds normal again.

I didn't know that the SM card would even read wavs. The 303 has a unique format that it converts everything to. It may have got scrambled when doing that. Or if you didn't have the bpm set on your 303 to 97 when you loaded them in, it could have stretched those to the tempo you had it set at. It may have lost the bmp info and stretched it to what it has on the machine.

Actually, the samples are 44.1 kHz and 16 bit wav files.

When SP 303 import the samples to certain bank, the BPM of the samples are 88 BPM. So when i adjust the tempo to 97, the well known artifacts appeared.
I think, that there is something about the unique format, but i'm not sure too.
I'll try to import some samples when i set the BPM first and will let you know.

The result is the same if you set the BPM first and then import the files.

so ignore that it reads what it does, as long as it sounds good and loops right you're all good, these machines don't always accurately compute bpm, especially if the loop is longer than 1 bar

It's strange, because this happens only if samples are imported through the Smart Media card. If i record them with Line In of the sampler, the BPM is correct.

It may just be some scrambled data. I've never had a good experience with trying to use it with a computer other than recording line out. I would just stick with the recording direct in with it. Personally it's more fun anyway (though it would be nice to be able to swap samples). Or you can get a 404 sx. Then it's pretty easy to swap around.
