A couple of quick questions to get started on the 404

I just got a 404. I haven't been lurking on the forum or anything. I just came up with some easy questions in the first couple days of using it.

How do I turn the metronome down/off? I saw someone asked this question and was referred to page 35 of the owner's manual. I assure you that there is no information in page 35 of my copy of the manual that tells me how to lower the volume of the metronome.

Can I turn a pattern into a sample? Once I have sequenced a pattern using samples from multiple pads, I would like to then resample that pattern as a new sample.

How do I copy a pattern? I see instructions on how to swap patterns between pads. But I would like to duplicate patterns so that I can build on them.

Can I play more than one pattern back simultaneously?

I just figured out how to adjust the metronome volume:

1) pattern select
2) rec
3)start/end/level
4) adjust ctrl 3

Nope. You have to record it to another device then record back to a sample on the 404.

Damn, I sold my 404 and got a 404-SX long ago- cannot believe it but there is no way to copy a pattern on an OG404 natively. There are ways explained here:

I also saw videos on Youtube on this topic. Search the web more man- it is all out there for the most part.

can I time stretch a sample? obviously the pitch change effects does not effect length. I was looking to elongate samples by slowing playback. can I do that?

Yes there is rudimentary timestretch, change the bpm of the sample. I use it as an effect sometimes

No this is not correct, changing BPM still maintains pitch and is not playback speed adjust like analog tape or the 202.

This did make me remember the one place there IS speed adjust I forgot- DJFX Looper on the SX you can slow the sample down and resample it but only to a certain degree and there is no increase in speed available but it is artifact free and allows you to detune very short samples. You have to set the loop time to max w CTRL 1, then adjust speed w CTRL 2, then catch the bit you want with CTRL 3.

My understanding is that timestretch refers to when you change sample length while maintaining the same pitch. Changing both at the same time for me is varispeed, like a tape deck. Don't know what the OP wants but if they wanted sample length independent of pitch then the 404 has it.

well, semantics aside, I think we both know what the 404 can and can't do. Hopefully this helps the OP out
