Using more than one sampler at a time

Hi everybody!

Lately I've been bouncing tracks and samples back into my SP 404sx from my recorder, but I know some people will use two samplers simultaneously... I've been thinking of grabbing another SP - as I said I have an SP-404sx but the old Boss guys seems to be pretty amazing - any thoughts/ suggestions? Is it worth it? Can other models do stuff that the 404sx can't?

get yourself a sampler that has a graphic waveform display and scrub through the sound. when you find a hit you like, just hit the record on your sp or other sampler and repeat for the sample.

this cuts chopping time in less than 1/5th

Yeah it's good man, I have a 404 and an akai remix 16, use the akai for pitching and sometimes some chopping, it's nice to spread out over the pads but can get a little confusing. Also I've found I sometimes lose a little sound quality, but it can add grit if that's what you're looking for. Basically yeah, it's nice to have two samplers

TRUE! I've been copying and truncating so much just so I don't have to start from the beginning of the sample again...

There's some good deals floating around ebay and craigslist right now for 202s and mpcs...

i got 2 sp404s and sometimes will create the beat on one, and record it into the other while it has a master effect on like say compression or bit crush.

i personally dont like the bouncing. i like finishing on the SX and exporting it with the SD card.

i like the idea of pre-FX before sampling into an SP but id rather but a different effects Unit than a second sp404 like i have.

that's true, but this is true for almost all the sp series...
except: the sp505 does a sort of pitch, it has 3 algorhythms (low,hi,and generic) that allows to pitch depending the sort of samples, not that great but it helps sometimes; this is not true pitch indeed...the sp808 i think has a cool pitch like on the sp202...

it's not little at all...i still have one since 1996 and i can assure you, it's big and heavy...maybe you're confusing with the white one, the s20? they are the same machine, they share the same functions, but the remix16 was more studied for djing (crossfader, pitch/scratch knobs)...

Sometimes I use my sp505 and Akai S20 together. I kind of use the 505 to give the S20 effects to sample in it's pads, and pitch them up or down just a tad if I need to. The S20 is kind of old, klunky, and I find it a little bit of a pain to have it run out of memory or disc space when it comes to backing up on 3.5 floppys. The 505 does a better job of that, but I could use some new smart media cards, which I haven't gotten around to. I'm willing to pick up the new Akai MPX16 for $200, and if it's decent enough to replace the S20, then I can flip that to somebody else.
