Upping vinyl sample quality

Ive noticed when I sample my vinyls from my turntable directly to my 404's inputs, the sound is very quiet and when I use filters n shit to turn it up, a big hiss comes with it- which some times covers up that beautiful record crackle . Is there any way to record pristine samples that you guys know of? Would using a preamp between my table and sampler be the solution, or is my old belt drive table just a butt...?

Try a phono preamp! A cheap one can go for about 20 bucks on amazon Good luck!

Are you using one of those portable vestax type turntables? My friend has the PT01 and I'm always surprised how shitty and muddy it makes his vinyl sound. That preamp is sure to boost levels, but keep in mind that not all vinyl is the same quality. I have some vinyl (cheaper, floppier, flimsier) that plays super quiet compared to others. No matter what, sampling vinyl will always sound better than sampling YouTube.

are you directly plugging your turntable into SP´s line in or is there a mixer in between? either the mixers built in phono preamp or a separate one like the gentleman before told you is necessary to bring phono signals to line level. and is your SP´s input gain setting maybe too low? and is the low volume on any material and always? driving/filtering the sample to make it heard should not be required...
needle might be source of problem too

I use my dads old Realistic LAB-85 belt drive turntable from the 70's and plug it directly into the rca jacks on the back of my SP404sx, with the input volume knob turned all the way up.

yeah, that is a phono out your table, you need to power it with a pre amp or a DJ mixer, or possibly a receiver that has phono inputs, one of those $20-$25 joints will definitely do you good

i just tried using a rca to stereo guitar cable, and connect the rca ends to my turntable and the guitar cable side to the MIC IN slot. the volume is already a lot higher just doing that

you're using a mic preamp to boost a phono signal do not do this its a horrible look. just get a real phono preamp, dj mixer or stereo receiver like previously stated. don't do the ghetto solution its a cheap fix just do it the right way
