I've been on the 2kxl for the last 2—3 years and finally got around to picking up a 303 last week. I'm already a big fan of the machine, I understand that it can be a little complicated for first time users but so far I've been able to figure out everything I've wanted to do from reading the manual.

One thing I haven't been able to do however is related to recording in / resampling. Lately I've been doing drum chopping and sequencing on the MPC and using the 303 for effects and additional sampling.

Is it possible to either play my drum pattern on the 303 while recording a new synth pattern to another pad OR can I resample my drum pattern to a new pad while recording in a new pattern on a separate pad?

The reason for this is I would like to have everything on individual pads to bounce into pro tools and mix later on and having stems is definitely preferred over a two-track bounce out of the 303.

When resampling with ext source on the 303, it will all end up on the same pad, so you're stuck with that mix.

What you can do is midi the synth, internal samples, and the 303 up to the mpc's sequencer, record your sequence with drums, synth, and whatever other samples, and then solo each individual element for tracking out. The quicker you get with that setup, the more time you'll have left over to record the stems in pro tools or onto individual 303 pads.

If you do it that way, and you make the 303 be the last in the chain before going out to pro tools, you can use 303's different recording settings as well as the effects. Some samples sound better in long mode, etc.
