saving in an organized manner?

I'm curious to how you guys usually save your stuff.

Do you keep all of your stuff on diff pads and just 'clean' the card of extraneous sht? Record the loops to a computer?

I'm not new to making beats, but I recently acquired a 404 and I dig the workflow, although it is a little different. Just trying to find an efficient way to keep track of joints. Thanks

-usually record raw to cassette/VHS
label the tape, # of tracks, and date.

-bank export on the 606 to cf card... rename all the bullshit, toss it in a folder....seems... to.... take.... forever.... (usb1.0)
-bank export on the microsampler out the USB, to the korg MS1 proggie thing, which is really good and pretty fast

i just record to different cassette tapes.
Got tapes labeled kick + snare, bass, loops, etc.
I got other tapes that are like rough drafts. And if I got all the pieces together on the pads, I'll punch it out onto tape. Then bounce the tape through multi-track on computer and put it all together.

1) buy cf card reader
2) copy ROLAND folder on cf card to new folder on your computer (make sure to KEEP the all caps ROLAND spelling or your sp won't recognize it when you copy it back to the card)
3) keep working with what you just saved or press cancel+del->card banks->del to clear space

Wow I am surprised to see a few of you saving to cassettes. I di that back in the day(like 25yrs ago)

I am currently saving everything to a folder on my desktop, I also save a backup to a usb thumb drive.

Organizing is a must, back when I was younger, I was soooo disorganized, it has come back to bite many years later when I wanted to remix stuff I did back then only to find that I no longer have the data for those tracks, lost somewhere. I now do double back ups actually triple back ups, I will also burn dvd's to back up the back ups.

wrrrrd, yeah I still have my cf reader from the 2kxl days. I guess I'll just keep the card organized and backup to the comp often. Those cf files are like little mystery files haha

good idea, i'll start doing that. I was thinking about getting an old Minidisc recorder but disk are a pain to get.

i got mad love for anything involving tapes but this seems very time intensive, playing all the samples onto tape AND later finding em will be my nightmare tonight thank you much.
i am 404 SX model user. i use a collection of old rather small SD cards and to note whats on where i make small origami envelopes and scribble pad X blabla or bank letter blubblub. adds one free layer of protective paper too!

and i delete a lot of stuff, because my computer is bursting with old projects and unused never returned to stuff like evrybody knows what i mean. and return to those projects is sometimes sentimental but very very rarely i really go make it something after all so more waste of time i could have fun finding new samples.
