Recording effects over a premade sample/song

Might be a noob question but couldnt find any info anywhere on the forum...but
I have premade track(2 mins long) set as a pad and all I want to do is record effects over it and export it via the SD card. Whenever I try to record it doesnt let me select the pad that i want. any help/suggestions?

You could resample the track onto another pad and add effects while it is recording.
