Recording from the sp404

After having my sp 404 for a little while now. I think some of my patterns are worth recording into audio. I tested it on minidisc and it sounds fine, but I wanna get some stuff on mp3 and for CD.I need help!

Please answer the following:

1.What do you use to record your patterns?

2.Have you tried other methods?

3.Do you plan to record some other way in the future?

4.What do you use for recording vocals?

A stereo cinch to mini stereo jack cable connected to the audio input of my laptop soundcard. I use the audacity freeware to record.

Yes I also use(d) my boss br-532 recorder.

No.

I don't record vocals.

i use my new boss micro br, to record a patterns and vocals too, in my setup in the road....the micro br is great 4 do this.
then.......connect the micro br to pc or mac for USB....and take your songs or your separate wavs or mp3...if you want.....and then you can record a cd.

1. I use a Macbook, MOTU Ultralite, Peak to record all of my stuff into loops...then I sequence the loops in Ableton Live... then take the sequences and load then into logic so I can effect them and record vocals on top.

2. Yes, I have used everything from boomboxes and cassette 4-tracks to digital multtrackers, to various computer software.

3. My current set-up has been my most comfortable way of working... but I'm sure I'll change it sooner or later.

4. I use the MOTU Ultralite and an Audio Technica AT-3035 Mic.

1. I record into ableton live thru a yamaha i88x or m-audio firewire solo

2. Multitrack recorder and 4 track tape

3. Yea, Once I finish moving my studio im gonna get a 4 bus console and start recording to my 4 track reel to reel again

4. I go into live thru the pres on my interface and use a samson c01 mic..its as cheap as they come and sounds good enough for what I do.

I've just researched the micro br and it looks like sumthin I need! The price is not bad either. Just a few more questions Vivi

If you put an analogue mixer in the chain between the 404 and the recorder/ computer you can use TRS cables to cut out some of the noise caused by the RCA's. I've seen this done in Melbourne and it works a treat. Plus an analogue mixer always adds warmth to a signal. Try it!

1 - is easy to use...im recording with the internal and external mic, in mp3 and wav, im use usb to tranfers to/at notebook, im recording some samples and patterns of my sp-404 into a diferents tracks in micro br.
2 - i dont know....because i have my micro br since 1 week....and not have time to try this yet.
3 - the effects are the same like the other br-family....perfercts!
4 - is one posibility...easy, portable and cheap...

1. At the moment I record direct into my computers cheapo onboard sound card, there's quite a drop in sound quality.

2. No.

3. I plan to use a usb interface, I can get a cheap one for AU$70, or maybe just use my friends mbox once I've got a few tracks sorted.

4. I'm not a vocalist, but if I was, I'd prolly use a shure sm58, cheap & good.

For patterns, I either plug my SP into my sound card through my mixer, or use a Hi-MD MiniDisc recorder. I don't know what model MD recorder you have, but Hi-MD recorders can upload recordings into your computer in uncompressed .wav format, through SonicStage or Hi-MD Render (Windows applications). The MZ-M100, M200, RH10, RH910, RH710 and RH1 models are compatible with MacOS and have their own separate utility included on the CD-ROM that comes with them, or you can download it. Check out the Equipment Browser over at MiniDisc.org for more info on the different models. The forums have a wealth of information about these machines.

if you are thinkin' about buying the micro br check out the br600 to. i think it is easier to use. it has more of a mixer feel to it..

i use it a lot and it is a dream to use!

the br600 also have two mic's so you can record in stereo in mutch better quality than with the mic on the sp-404...

^ word- i got the br600. I have nothing to compare it to cuz its the only one i ever owned, but i do know its ill.
