Sometimes the solution is *cutting* eq and not adding....try (in software DAW, or hardware EQ if you have it) doing some cuts around 300hz, 500hz, 800hz....try varying amounts and see if it de-muds your track some, usually will.

For brightness, the human ear hears stuff around 5khz as "louder" then other frequencies due to our natural EQ curve if you will....try a boost around there, or maybe a boost in the 2-3k range for certain instruments (synths, horns, guitars...)

after a vinyl sim rip, the standard sp eq patch is 10 oclock, 11 oclock , 11 oclock, might need to fine tune it depending and the bass dynamics and crack dynamics you got going.

scrap that patch it's a little dull.

what I found today, is if you pull a little from the bottom and record to tape till it peaks, then pull the drums down till they dont bleed, then turn the mix up to compensate, then you get a fuller and brighter mix, experiment with eq and this technique to tape, when you bring it back in to the sp you might have to use the same eq curve as you used to go in, the trick isnt saturation, as it causes distortion and can become unprodicatable, on my tascam any way. the trick is to make phoney saturation on your snares, when you reduce the eq for the bottom end you are essentially adding some sparkle to the highs,
automaticly, it's kind of like algebra.

ok to get your snare cracking without distorting ( because my tascam behaves like digial, {unpredictible transient distortion} i avoid it.

get your snare crunching , add a bit of reverb, another part of the trick is to use headphones monitoring the snare to tape, (AFTER SPEAKER TESTS)

this will ensure it is comfortable, where on speakers it can honk and you wont know till you upload it to sound cloud and listen with headphones and it's smacking your head to hard.

I should add, I am using the 606 for everything today.

606 + eq (*) > tape + eq(*) > 606 .
*low end cut
and it sounds almost exactly like the 606. the eq stages are essential,

just try it, or if you know about it , help explain it to me.

peace.
